Interlull Break

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Much prefer to see the Welsh supporters get a run out.
Rather than those fucking "everyone loves us underdog supporters" Oirish lot.
Just sayin.

Even as someone from Ireland, i find our fans embarrassing. At Euro 2012, our fans cheering and singing when Spain were stuffing us. It doesn't mean they are great fans, just that they don't really care if we win, and are there on a holiday.

100% agree, hated the Green Army rubbish at Italia 90 and today , In the 80s I was secretary of a very small football club, most people in the area saw us and our game as a joke until Oierland qualified for Euro 88 and Italia 90. Then they were all fucking experts. I know people who actually believe that fucking inanely stupid "Ole ole" chant originated in Ireland.
The greatest fans in the world in the 90s, fucking embarrassing joke.. lead by an ignorant pig that by law we all had to love.

Ireland will probably get third place now because of Scotland's implosion then it will be in "our " best interest to be cheated in a play off ..Marches on embassies and calls for extra team in tournament by John Delaney.. love it :banghead:

I find a lot of Irish supporters as embarassing as the next guy, but lets not throw the baby out with the bath water here and slate everything they do - I like the fact that they go to tournaments without expectation and ready to enjoy the experience for what it is. Nobody wants to see their country heavily beaten and for the fans to laugh at it, but at the same time we have to accept that we currently have the worst bunch of international footballers we have had since the 1970's and we have to adjust our expectations accordingly

International football: pile of shit :D :barscarf:
Yeah, anyone who has ever kicked a ball gets to play. In fact, even if you have a back garden, you can qualify by finishing 501st in a group of six teams.

I just don't get how you could be singing away as your team is being stuffed, regardless of what our pre-tournament expectations are. I think Fans like that don't really have any passion for the game, and are simply there on a holiday, and shouldn't be made out to be super fans.

I remember the thousands of Gooners having a post match sing song in paris 06 and nobody felt that it was wrong to do so after losing

England playing against San Marino (again) sums up why people have such a negative perception of international football.

Why the fuck do San Marino have the right to enter the qualifying? It's a waste of everyone's time.

Biggest few days of the season for me. Can't wait for tomorrow.

Fucking sad really but just can't get excited about the foregone conclusion that is 3rd/4th place and CL knockout humiliation.

I'm certainly looking forward to seeing how Wales and NI get on next summer. Watching England huff and puff their way to an early ferry back across the channel less so

augie I know there are genuine fans of the Republic of Ireland , I remember considering myself one until the obnoxious Big Jack humiliated Liam Brady. I respect the genuine ones but the whole phenomenon of Jacks Army was built on people who knew fuck all about the game. The JCLs , the same ones who are now rugby experts because that game is now flavour of the month in Ireland.
I also have no issue with fans going to a tournament with little expectation but enjoying the experience non the less. But I cringe when I hear this we are the best supporters in the world stuff. Who judges that ? , ourselves and our media. I cringe at the "win ,lose or draw we will sing and drink " mentality. That not only belittles a football team but also a nation.
