Did anyone see Gabriel's tribute on SlySports last night?

Okay, I'm gonna say it. It reeked to high fuck of some PR asswipe at the club thinking "hey, I know a way to make the club look really sincere and genuine, stick a mic in Gab's hands, and get a tribute from him - this is gonna go viral and Arsenal will get alot of likes for it..." and then said PR asswipe actually suggested it at a meeting of other PR asswipes and they greenlit the idea...

Look, I'm not for a moment saying Gab wasn't sincerely grieving and I believe he thought he was doing the right thing in paying tribute to a coach and two players he was long term close friends with, and having spoken for two close friends and my dad at their funerals, I absolutely respect the the guts and strength it took to do it... but I just get the awful feeling the PR asswipes took advantage of him...

Would be in broad agreement with you on this..I agree Gabriel was genuine and has a right to express it..but I cannot stand or understand this need to fall over ourselves with profound statements at times of tragedy..it is profound statement bingo to see who can top the others.
it's hackneyed and clichéd.." Thoughts and Prayers ".....so easy to say...and I would think Gabriel was to a degree set up for PR purposes..

Unfortunately when it comes to the PR people involved in football, they will always try too hard and too often it comes across as insincere. Then again perhaps they feel they can’t win? If they did nothing or didnt do enough, it would be pounced on by many in the increasingly mawkish society we now live in.

Like all these tragedies it is a terrible loss of human life ... and maybe it is natural to feel more shocked when it included so many young men with potentially bright futures.

To be quite honest though I'd never heard of Chapecoense FC or any of their players and only know of them now because this tragedy happened.

I feel bad but i have not heard of the club and will probably forget about the whole thing and the club within a short space of time.

But for someone who has a connection with them i can totally understand I would be devastated if it was The Arsenal, I might even feel pretty sad if it happened to a Rival that i hate because i still have a connection, but this i feel nothing

I see what you're saying. As I said too, I'd never heard of them either and so it would have been false for me to go along with this ''loss to football'' thing I've seen elsewhere.

I dont think I'd forget the name now though ... much in the same way I wont forget the name Lockerbie ( a place I'd also never heard of either before the disaster).

On a slightly different note, when there is a minutes silence for these things ... is anyone really thinking about the victims or their familes? I would never dream of refusing to stay silent but you cant force yourself to think of a certain thing at a certain time. My mind wanders to all sorts of things.
