Go easy on redarmy7 gooner89 - he's only on here for a genuine chat and craic and is not here to take the piss like panto 8)

As regards the 1/4 finals I believe that the mancs will draw roma cos they have already thumped them before and I believe the mancs usually get the easiest draw of the english teams  I think the scousers will be going to turkey, the chavs to schalke which leaves us going to barcelona
cheers

i hope we get schalke, not cos its the so called easier fixture its just that i'll be able to drive there and back in a day, nice cheap euro away, is what i'm after at this stage of the season, as games start to come thick and fast soon.

It's precisely because the Prem is startin to dominate that has people such as Platini and Blatter makin snide remarks about it, say what you want about either of those two and I'll agree but stupid they are not!
There has been an English side in the last 3 finals and the big four are startin to make appearances in the last 16 a regular thing!

Following Heysel all our clubs were banned for 5 years I think it highly unlikely that any country on the continent would have received that punishment and it's very hard not to draw conclusions when you consider that in the late 70's and early 80's we had a virtual monopoly on the European Cup with a side in 8 out of the 9 finals between '76 and '84 and winning all of them except the one on the night of the disaster itself!

So I fear that history could be repeating itself with the constant references from UEFA and FIFA regarding the introduction of homegrown player quotas and we all know which league and which clubs that is aimed at!
Good point. Heysel was a terrible tragedy and the hooliganism had to stop, but look what goes on in Italy almost every week. There's so many stabbings and gang fights outside games they don't even bother mentioning it any more. Not to mention what happened in Sicily, supporters ran amok and killed a cop, and if you believe some reports he was singled out for punishment, and what happened? absolutely nothing. UEFA as usual did nothing, because as we all know, Italian football, while being incredibly corrupt, is untouchable.
And what about fans who travel to certain Italian grounds for European games, the best you can hope for is a bashing from the riot police, and the worst is getting stabbed outside the ground while you are minding your own business. If that continued violence happened in England there'd be another lengthy ban on the cards.

Oh and lets not forget the biggest farce of all, Milan were caught match fixing and not only were they allowed to play in the CL, they won it!!!
I can't believe there wasn't more of an uproar over that.

As to Spain, racist chants are common practice at every game, but once again UEFA do absolutely nothing. For Gods sake, the Spanish national team manager was caught making racist remarks about Henry.

You can't compare Italian troubles with tragedies such as Heysel. When that happens because of Italian fans, then a ban might come. But not because of a few stabbings.

I wasn't saying that a fan getting stabbed is as bad as Heysel. My point is that violence and hooliganism is still a HUGE problem in Italian football and they are never taken to task for it. Did you not see the nationwide riots recently, or the almost full scale war that happened in Sicily? Not too mention the corruption.

If ANY of these problems kept surfacing in England UEFA would throw the book at the Premier league.

You totally missed his point there, Khalid.

Also, what happened at Heysel was not about fighting and stabbing like what is currently happening outside Italian club games. It was caused by a football culture clash and a decrepit stadium.

The Mousers did what most hooligans of that era did; they ran at the opposition fans to try and take their end. Unfortunately the Italians didn't understand that and panicked, causing a structurally weak wall to collapse and people to be crushed to death. That is what happened, rather than the few punches being exchanged and a lot of jostling, that would have happened at an English club ground in the same circumstances. Not one Italian fan was stabbed or beaten to death by a Mouser.

I'm not defending the Mouser hooligans (or any hooligans) but it has to be looked at from the correct perspective. What the Italian clubs have gotten away with in the last decade or so is disgraceful.

Well I just hope we avoid the other 3 English clubs (although its actually 2 american and 1 russian). My preferred option would be Barcelona.
They are without Messi for 6 weeks and it is him that supplies the front boys best. They also give you chances at the other end as their philosophy is much like Keegans. I think that with a full strength side and keeping 11 players on the pitch we can take them.
It would be great to see Thierry back at the Grove and I'm sure he'd get a fantastic welcome. The only shame would be knocking him out of the competition. If ever a guy deserved to win that medal it is him.

But when it comes down to the draw we will get either Manure or the Chavs

I have a feeling we'll draw chelsea, which I wouldn't mind too much. I'd like to avoid utd and barca, although I would love a trip to the nou camp.
