Are you really satisfied with 3rd in the prem, champs league qf/sf at best, humiliated by the scum and manure this season?
I haven't supported Arsenal for the past 38 years to be content with mediocrity!
1) No! I am never satisfied with mediocrity and I have not supported Arsenal 25 years to be content with mediocrity. I will only be satisfied when we win everything we compete in and that includes youth, reserves and the ladies!
2) Compared to last year yes I am satisfied: last year we came 4th in the league and got knocked out in the first k/o round of the CL - it is an improvement;
3) My point was predominatly in relation to the show ponies comment. Yes I agree the teams needs tweaking in a number of positions. But of 3/4 of the season we have been there. Yes we have fallen back a little and lost form. The fact our 'best' team is out of form shows our weakness in terms of squad.
I honestly believe this season was too early for us. Provided AW does make a few additions this summer, which I think he will, next season will be great!
Arsenal will never, ever, be mediocre!
At the risk of being lambasted I will say for the record that I believe the standard of the league this season to be quite low and it is for that reason that it frustrates me so much that we blew a huge chance to win this league. If you are inclined to see some merit in that statement then how can you judge the teams improvement ? Some fans will point to losing only 2 games this season but look how many we have drawn (esp against average teams) and ask yourself if you would expect to be still in with a chance of winning the league considering all that.
And let me also say that our team doesnt need a bit of tweaking for next season - it needs a major injection of quality both in the first 11 and in the back ups

We will see. I am keeping optimistic until we are knocked out of the CL and mathematically unable to win the prem.Fabrestuta wrote:Technically its not over, but the fat lady has warmed up her vocal chords and is just about to break into a rendition of Habanera.Fabby is a Foot (Leg-end) wrote:It is not over yet!

What will fans remember most in 10 years time, a cup win or so nearly there yet again.QuartzGooner wrote:I would rather be in Champions League quarter finals than win the Carling Cup.
Not saying for one minute that we can't win the CL however any cup win would be progress for us and give the team the flavour of winning something at least.
Trophies are all that matter to fans when engaged in bar room footie trumphs.
It's a tinpot trophy that's good for reserve teams and midtable mediocrities.green gooner wrote:What will fans remember most in 10 years time, a cup win or so nearly there yet again.QuartzGooner wrote:I would rather be in Champions League quarter finals than win the Carling Cup.

A point
Whatever your thoughts on the infamous Battle of Old Trafford game and what followed Van Horsie's pen miss, you would have to admit that you couldn't see the current bunch of players reacting in such a way. All that business after that game came from a proper attitude of "fuck off, you smug bunch of wankers who think you've got a divine right to win the Prem". Vieira hated RvN and the rest of the players had very little love for the Manure players. The current bunch don't seem to have that fire in them. Fair enough there was that brawl in the Carling Cup final a couple last year but it somehow wasn't the same thing as what happend at OT. I reckon the attitude will come in time as the squad bond more and develop a proper die-hard camaraderie that will turn them into proper winners. It's not a long way off coming though. We don't get nearly as many red cards anymore either. What does that tell you?

That referees aren't dishing out so many unjustified reds to us any more. What else could it tell you??Block 18 row 2 wrote:We don't get nearly as many red cards anymore either. What does that tell you?
As for the current side lacking a fighting spirit, they've scored a lot of goals this season in the last 10 minutes or so. That suggests a real battling ability, rather than the old lose control response to being in difficult positions.
