In and Outs

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

OUT:
Lehmann (Head & heart no longer there. Lost motivation)
Senderos (110% effort but not good enough at the highest level)
Reyes (Waste of space)
Baptista (Clumsy, poor touch and not worth £m's if Reyes is sent back)
Song (Never been impressed. A solid championship player).
Freddie (Thanks for all the memories but sadly his best days are behind him)

IN:
Given/Boruc/Buffon
Curtis Davies (African Nations next season - we'll need quality in depth)
Scott Parker/Hargreaves (still too soft at times so need a bit more grit)
Ribery/Lennon!!!! (we are crying out for an authodox wide man)
Eto'o (We simply need a natural goal scorer other than Thierry).
A Right Back (Eboue & Hoyte are not convincing me).

We clearly can't afford all of the above but just two off that list will improve us. One thing I would say, our squad/team does not need major surgery, we just need the final touches to make us genuine challengers. Final touches they may be, but they are vital ones and without them I fear we'll continue to be also rans. I for one though have faith in Arsene to get it right.

Ok my first post here lol

I think its time for Freddie to go, he is a shadow of the player he was 3 or 4 seasons ago. A worthy and a realistic replacement would be Frank Ribery. He had an indifferent season with Marseille, but hes a Arsenal sorta player, speedy and penetrative down the flanks, we dont really have an out and out winger.

Senderos has to go, he just isnt good enough. I keep hearing how Gallas and Toure are the ideal centre halfs. I dont think so. They are similar sorta centre halfs, technically perfect but lack the leadership qualities of a Tony Adams or for that matter even a Sol Campbell. I feel Toure and Gallas are better utilized when they are playing alongside an old fashioned centre half who takes charge and attacks the first ball during set pieces. We have lacked in that department for some time and it has cost us dear. Woodgate if Real doesnt want him back is an excellent excellent choice.

Aliadiere has to go and maybe Baptista as well. What Arsenal needs now is a 20 goal a season striker and neither of them can provide that. Samuel Eto would be an absolute dream buy, i just cant see Barcelona letting him go though. But he has expressed his desire to play under Arsene so maybe it could be achieved. If not Eto, Torres or David Villa would be good purchases.

Toure is our tony adams figure. Not quite as dominating as Tony but he is willing to tell people what they should be doing.

Kolo technically is one of the best centre halfs in Europe at the moment. But somehow i dont feel he attacks the first ball as much as he should, i mean look at the amount of goals we have conceded through set pieces. Kolo had his best season when he had Sol alongside him. Similarly Gallas was outstanding at Chelsea when he had Terry alongside him. I just feel with Kolo and Gallas we are stuck with similar kinds of centre backs, world class centre backs no doubt but similar kinds. I personally feel a Jonathan Woodgate alongside either one of them provides a better balance.

I agree I think i've made this point before, they are amazing centre backs, fantastic at chasing back and taclking and breaking out with it but they are not world class at defending set pieces. I would love to see a towering dominant centre back such as Alex who would make someone like Drogba think twice about attacking a ball in the box, too many teams can take a leisurely header in our box, i want the striker to think he's about to get his face ripped off everytime he goes to head a ball, there is nothing better at putting an attacknig player off their header then thinking there is a massive angry man cahrging for it the other way
