so why always the same players? Is Toure not due a rest?

My thinking is that we are a team low on character - By that I mean some players are keen to take a rest where others do not show it - And just because Toure doesn't show it doesn't mean he is not in need of a rest.

Some of the players in our squad who think they need a rest and think they are injured need to take a look at Toure and learn.
Fair points. does it look like toure needs a rest though? hes a strong character and maybe wenger feels he can push on more unlike the rest who are still not mentally there yet? gathering his experience too but thats just my opinion.
he wants to go for the CL on tuesday and well if we lose then i’m gonna look like a fool for agreeing with wenger on resting players.

Hleb and Ade got a rest because they look absolutely done in - have done for weeks. Cesc can't have a rest because we would probably have lost today. Its been the same for at least a season. Cesc is the only midfielder we can rely on to a)play week in/out and b)create something a bit different. Cesc is trying to play the passing midfielder and the Dennis role - its painful to watch as he is under so much pressure to perform every game.

As for the crowd - can't really complain I think they felt how some of the rest of us feel, the writings on the wall and has been since Brum. Early kick offs a disappointing Champs Leage performance (against the same team, train strike, team selection etc probably didn't add much either!

Wenger said this was his most important and testing period at the club at the beginning of the week. I think that's true because the squad depth is really being exposed now. We may still get through on Tuesday night, but the league has been up for a while and Arsene needs to look at his over reliance on his 'kids' and lack of spending in the summer - we all know January is a shit time to buy.

If this is the wake up call that prompts some realistic purchases in the summer that prove we are serious in bridging the gap between the tremendous quality we alredy have and the potential in the reserve team then for me it will be sort of worth it - as worth it as blowing a lead so tremendously always is

We have never properly replaced the goals that Bobby gave us and since Dennis and TH14 have gone (not to mention Reyes/Baptista  ) we have been lacking options upfront, RVP is supreme but lets face it, do you really rely on him as a first choice striker for next season? Ade has done fantastic but has run the line for five months pretty much on his own. Bendtner looks a long way off, and Eduardo will not be back to his potential until Summer 2009.

Hleb has flattered and has at times been mesmerising, but since Xmas running on empty and back to his frusttrating first/second season ness. Rosicky is a joke and as I have said on here before alledgedly has a recurring injury that was not diagnosed properly. Therefore we have had to suffer Eboue and Diaby trying to do something they aint - wingers - when we need some goals to take the heat of Ade and Cesc. On top of that we have Theo who if we're honest has only flickered - sure he is starting to flicker more now and deserves his chance in the run in.

So here's looking to the boys giving their last to the cause on Tuesday - we have that fighting spirit in their but dont think we can do two matches a week for the above reasons. We cant fail (almost) to finish in the top four now so lets have a crack at Pool and then cross our fingers that we get no more injuries/suspensions.

The summer will be very interesting - could be frustrating as even if AW gets his chequebook out it could well be after the Euro's - wonder how long Cesc will have off between end of Euro's and potential CL qulaifying

Anyway, that's got that off my chest - I will duck for cover now

if we win the Champions league and ade and hleb play their socks off on tuesday then he would of made a great choice but if we loose then he made a huge mistake

i think the biggest mistake will be that he didnt spend some of th money available in the jan transfer window,,, its all very well having talent that are breaking through but we need players that can contribute now,,,, not in the future,,, future is good,, but we need some strength in numbers now...

still love em though

if we're talking mistakes we could of desperatly used a class midfielder in the last few games to take some of the pressure off of cesc and matt...
but nope had to let diarra go
diaby is good but not good enough, comes on and plays like hleb...tries to run thorugh people, difference is hleb does sometimes get thorugh...(we'll forget the fact he always falls over just after for now though :P)

should also have moved heaven and earth for defoe...i know once a **** always a *word censored* but i think he would have won us at least half the games we have drawn

Liverpool side wasn't bad, arguably first choice defence, a useful target man, very talented Lucas, Banayoun is effective and others were decent with talented youngster.

Our Second string players did well enough. Big Nic scored a goal and played well despite being alone, Traore and Hoyte defended well though oddly neither got forward much which was disappointing given Traore's ability going forward, Silva wasn't awful. Problem is Walcott was too confident, we didn't get forward enough to support Big Dane while first choice of Toure, Gallas and Almunia never looked too comfortable, Eboue did support Big Dane more then others but his passing was erratic, Cesc was poor in open play, Flamini could use a rest while all three subs failed us

Might have started one of Song/Denilson in place of Flamini/Cesc and not played Toure, kept Senderos going with Gallas and had Lehman in goal but seems quibbly

BUT WHY DOES THERE HAVE TO BE THAT CHOICE? THE MANAGER HIMSELF MADE OUT BEFORE THE MATCH AS IF HE BELIEVED WE COULD STILL CHALLENGE FOR BOTH TROPHIES, THEN HE GOES AND PICKS A SERIOUSLY UNDERSTRENGTH SIDE, AS IF HE DIDN'T REALLY BELIEVE IT AT ALL!!

AND WHAT HAPPENS IF WE LOSE TUESDAY? IF TODAY WAS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW WE PERFORM WHEN WE ARE SUPPOSEDLY STILL INTERESTED IN THE TITLE RACE, GOD HELP US NEXT SUNDAY AGAINST THE MANCS IF WE LOSE TO LIVERPOOL MIDWEEK!! THAT EMBARRASSING FA CUP DEFEAT WILL SEEM NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT WE'LL SUFFER IF WE GO IN TO THAT MAN UTD MATCH WITH THE SAME ATTITUDE AS WE WENT INTO THIS ONE!!

i have to say despite the mediocre football we have performed of late, i am surprisingly confident about our visit to anfield next week, i think we will defo turn them over,, we have a good record up there, and they will not be looking forward to it, as much as we wont, because both of our seasons depend on this crunch match, forget manure next week, if they win this weekend thats the end of it we will not win the prem regardless if we beat them or not next sunday, i will be there hoping and praying we do by the way...

but i seriously think we can get a result up there, one of the guys i work for is a die hard scouser, home away and europe, and even he is not looking forward to it and thinks we will turn them over...

BRING ON THE FERNABACHE,,,, thats what i say

long live the gunners

I voted no as I can't be doing with this resting players nonsense. Players are only tired if you tell them so. Tennis players play every day of the week and then fly across the world and do it all again.

All week Wenger has told us that we can win the League (personally I didn't think we could and have felt that way for a couple of weeks). However, he then puts out a weakened team apparently resting people for "more important" fixtures in the week ahead. :?
