Good point, we were fortunate to have such great players wear the shirt. The Chavs, had Zola, erm, Zola and Zola and we still get subjected to that sodding Cantona song every Xmas by the Mancs.Wayno wrote:We taunt Chelsea with chants of "Shit club no History" but complain when we sing about our own......I don't get it![]()
I think its a great thing, obviously reserved for when the game is done and dusted and if its the end of the season or something similar, last night seemed a perfect time! Why not show we still love the players, they openly in the media say they still love the club! I don't think as a player you'd have much faith if you gave everything to the club only to know you'd be forgotten about the instant you retired or were sold!
The players on the pitch should be encouraged by it and aspire to legendry status! Who needs encouragement when your playing a bunch of muppets who your comfortably going to beat and the season is over?
I've heard the same fantastic away fans outsinging every club in the country throughout the season when we needed it most, now its all over why not let them enjoy themselves and have a good old fashion carnival atmosphere, this season is already history so why not enjoy looking back

I'm with the 26 may 89 and g88ner on this one, the season's over for us and the fans have travelled all the way up to Derby and were obviously enjoyin a carnival atmosphere which we know is all too rare as an Arsenal fan, against a club who to be fair didn't belong on the same park as us, and it probably also has a lot to do with the fact that our back catalogue puts our current one to shame - we are really really in dire need of some new proper songs and be willing to sing them cos there is no doubt IMO that over the season it can make the difference between winning and losing!
what a ludicrous thread!!
I'm agree with 26May 110%. It makes me proud that our boys sing our former heroes' names. It shows that we, as fans, are not fickle and remember those who gave their all for the club. In years gone by, having 30,000 Gooner's singing the Vieira song in unison sent shivers down my spine, and I love hearing it now and again, today. We've been lucky enough to say that genuine world class players like Henry, Vieira, Bergkamp and Pires spent their best years with us, so why not celebrate that with a song every now and then.
Oh and btw, I think you'll find United fans DO sing about former players...the Keane and Cantona songs are heard every week on MOTD!
