Kolo is a good defender... but nothing more. Whereas, I think we can now see clearly why Mourinho preferred Gallas as a full back... he cannot be trusted at centre back, unfortunately; and yet somehow, he's our captainbenglenton wrote:kolo is still a good defender and always plays whit HEART (ok ok not in Champions League against Bayern Munich) but he remains a good defender not a SUPERB defender like we'd have....against hull city he was not guilty....

Would Fergie swap Vidic or Fedinand for Gallas or Toure??? no!
Would Scolari swap Terry or Vidic for Gallas or Toure?? no!
They aren't good enough, and will always limit our chances of success. No matter how well we play, and how many goals we score, these 2 will always hold us back!
The problem is, I'm not even sure that there are better defenders available to buy.. there seems to be a shortage of top class centre backs, so I guess we might be stuck with Laurel and Hardy for some time yet

i think that wenger would buy a REAL defender he could...the board never told him "don't spend any time"...gareth barry i think, he would make the deal...but there's a banner at the Grove "In Arsene We Trust"...we must accept his decision..how many disaster-defensive-full-centre-back we've seen in these years? wenger continues to keep his favoriteous players, doesn't matter if they are totally 2nd-division-level...just because many of them haven't offers from any other team...cygan now works as minerThe problem is, I'm not even sure that there are better defenders available to buy.. there seems to be a shortage of top class centre backs

Unfortunately, "In Arsene We Trust" has it's limits. No trophy in 3 years, and only the FA Cup in the last 4benglenton wrote:i think that wenger would buy a REAL defender he could...the board never told him "don't spend any time"...gareth barry i think, he would make the deal...but there's a banner at the Grove "In Arsene We Trust"...we must accept his decision..how many disaster-defensive-full-centre-back we've seen in these years? wenger continues to keep his favoriteous players, doesn't matter if they are totally 2nd-division-level...just because many of them haven't offers from any other team...cygan now works as minerThe problem is, I'm not even sure that there are better defenders available to buy.. there seems to be a shortage of top class centre backsand senderos hidden to his new club that is injured
djourou isn't the answers to defensive troubles...all is due to willy failures counteract to cousin...stop, but i tell you this: the time for buying is over, this is the team, wenger needs a riflection...there is money in the cash...a great player won't come free...

But yes, the time for signing players has now gone. We did however, have the best part of 3 months to solve our centre back problem and replace Flamini... and we did neither. As a result, we look frightingly poor defensively, and any hope of the title faded away as the the transfer window slammed shut.
The only defence I can find for Wenger, is that despite the £20-30m he had available to spend, he honestly couldn't find any decent holding midfielder, or a quality centre back.
I find it hard to believe that he couldn't find a more commanding midfielder than Denilson, because as it stands, we have a gaping hole in our midfield and no one to put a foot in, and command the middle of the pitch. It's a shocking oversight by such an intelligent manager

As for the centre back problem... I don't know who is available to buy who is better than Gallas and Toure. No one springs to mind, other than the likes of Martin Laursen and Skrtel, who Liverpool ended up buying, but it would seem that we now have to put up with Laurel and Hardy for the foreseeable future.

We won't win the title... and I don't think that's an over reaction, and probably an opinion shared by 99% of pundits, but we will finish top 4, and we can win the Champions League!

We can beat anyone on our day, and in a cup competition, that is all you need, but in a league format over 9 months? trying to finish above ManUre and Chelsea? forget it!
we certainly got bids for Yaya Toure and Inler, that Swiss bloke, accepted but they refused to join for varying reasons. If Yay Toure isn't getting first team football by Jan then we could get him but our titles hopes may be dead by then. I imagine he didn't want to pay stupid money for Alonso or BarryThe only defence I can find for Wenger, is that despite the £20-30m he had available to spend, he honestly couldn't find any decent holding midfielder, or a quality centre back.

With respect to thos eoutfiled players, i think Wenger is looking for soemthign very specific.Lethal wrote:25 million would have made us contendors for me
kompany-cost citeh six
alonso or barry-would have been around the 15 mark
given-would have cost around 5,even friedel would have been a great signing at 2 million for a year or two considering his age
H wants fast, agile, and quick footed players able to play his precise brand of quick switch passing.
Has anyone noticed how interchangeable more of the players are? They seem to be almost clones of each other now.
Not identical, but getting that way.
Theo, Ramsey, Wilshere, Vela, Denilson.
All (to varying but similar degrees of course) compact, fast, quick passing, technical and tidy players.
All have a good all round game, all can play in several positions.
Wenger is developing that type of player from a young age, rather than buying them off the shelf.
For better or worse?
Too early to say.
I have always said that kolo is not a natural defender but I am not having all this drop kolo and keep gallas malarky. It was gallas that has been caught for the 3 goals conceded from corners this season despite some wanting to lay the blame for yesterdays goal at kolo's feet - if kolo was meant to be marking cousin who the fcuk was gallas picking up ?? To my mind cousin stepped back into kolo but was always on the front post run and gallas was the man we had at the front so that makes him culpable in my eyes.
Yes kolo is a crowd favourite for his undoubted passion for the club, for his role in the invinceables etc etc and yes gallas is derided for his tantrums throughout last season and also cos he aint a good skipper. However to try and use those facts as a reason why some are not capable of seeing kolo's weaknesses is in my opinion just a smokescreen to cover up gallas's screw up's. If some think that kolo should be dropped then I have no problem with that but gallas should be the 1st to be dropped in my eyes and I know that kolo and djouru would make a better partnership than gallas and djouru. And ffs please stop all this shit about putting a 31yr old player, who has hardly played in 18 months due to injury problems, into the team as a potential saviour
Whether the signing of silvestre is proved to be a good move or not only time will tell but he will need a few run outs with the kids before he is ready to step into the 1st team starting line up
