I was asked the question today, is the minutes applause unique to this country? I wasnt sure. Minute silences are common in europe i think, not sure about south america?

But applause?

Anyone know? Is it unique to this country?

When we played AC Milan at home in the Super Cup in the mid 90s there was a minutes silence. The announcer said that the Italian tradition is to clap rather than have silence so don't take it as being disrespectful. So the Milan fans clapped. and a lot of our fans joined in with them.

we always do the minute silence here in brazil too (whole south america actually), only difference is that it lasts 15 seconds and no one respects it, so you hear lots of noise like nothing was happening

we're the most respectful of people, mind you. :( :( :(

Moment of silence seems to be the North American standard, though we get a lot of drunken morons yelling out shit. Not nearly as well observed as the silences before EPL games I find.

Yeah I got that one tonight. Not sure what you can and can't say on a website without being sued and as I don't have a solicitor as good as O.J Simpson's, I don't think I'll say what I heard!

Any chance of deleting this thread, seeing that it airs a rumour about Gary's demise with zero proof, on what is actually thread created to show their respect for the recently deceased?

Personally, I'm dead against deleting a thread that has been set up for the right reasons, and I think it's very sad that you're suggesting it gets deleted just because you feel wronged. I bit childish and bitter really, which is a shame.

However, as you're saying the post you've quoted is a rumour based on zero proof then yes, I agree with you - it should be deleted.

But delete the entire condolence thread? no, of course not.

Ok, I've deleted a couple of posts that stated the rumours and edited a couple others that quoted them.

Let's keep this thread for paying respects and if you must post rumours then do it on another thread but only post links to other sites carrying those rumours - DO NOT directly quote them here or we may get sued/shut down.
