We got Cazorla so the Cesc Ghost has gone. Got to get rid of the RVP Ghost now. Mind you glad we dont have Rooney earning 200,000 a week here.
I just think he is so overrated.

You what ?? :? Cesc is ahead of santi in the pecking order and that is a certainty. Some would like to scratch cesc's name from our memory banks but the fact is that he was a bloody great player for us and at times carried the team on his back which was unfair on such a young player. There is no way of getting away from the fact that he left a club with zero fcuking ambition to join what was probably the best club side ever. He left to play under a manager that was his hero when he was growing up in barca and the fact that pep is no longer there is probably part of the reason that he doesnt seem to be as happy now. Maybe I am naive but I think cesc left us to go back to his home club and it was the only club he would have left us for and I am not going to hold that against him
Dont worry augie when Cazorla leaves in 18 months time to RM or City we will have the same people saying Santi who?

Cesc was a great player surrounded by shite Denilson Diaby Rosicky and Helb

The '08 midfield of Cesc, Rosicky, Flamini and Hleb was one of the best around at the time. Hardly shite, but dogged by injuries.

Can see both sides of the coin here. Fabregas was absolutely quality for us, genuinely world class player that carried us so often and at such a young age. That said, he did manufacture a move away which was understandable given the circumstances, but what was unforgivable was his complete lack of commitment in the last 6 months when he let the club and everybody else down.

Cazorla has been awesome for us but aside from the fact that he's only played about 10 games he's also a different player to Fabregas. Fabregas had been in England since 15 or whatever and that gave him the best of both worlds: he was able to use his far superior technical ability and adapt his game to cause maximum embarrassment to whatever particular clown he was lining up against that week. Cazorla is a fantasic player, and I'm certainly not saying this makes him a lesser player at all, but his game is clearly based on playing in a more technical league.

Considering Rosicky only played 3 games in 2008 and nothing again till 2009, that's a hell of a bold statement.

But I know what you mean guy, for the first 3 months of the 2007/08 season they did indeed look pretty fearsome. 8)

That's why i added 'dogged by injuries' mate

Still, they were hardly shit players like donaldo's claiming they were.

Rosicky-Cesc-Flamini-Hleb was a very good midfield for us 2007-2008, almost won us the league but for late season injuries to Flamini (and Sagna and Adebayor).

It was a pre-injury Rosicky, a competitive Cesc, an all action Flamini and a technically gifted Hleb (though he did overplay it too often).

I have followed Spain's recent games closely and I can tell you now Santi is ahead of Cesc in midfield. Cesc isn't trusted in midfield anymore neither by Spain nor by Barcelona. He plays as a false number 9 for Spain most of the time.

I assumed Cesc was played further forward for Spain and Barca because they want him in the team, just not ahead of Xavi and Iniesta?

I also thought Santi said he was normally played out wide before his move to Arsenal?

So I never really thought of Cesc and Santi as being in direct competition with each other.

But, I don't really follow Barca or Spain, so I don't know to be honest.

For example, yesterday Spain lined up like this:

--------------Xavi-----------------Alonso
Pedro----------------Iniesta-----------------Cazorla
----------------------Fabregas------------------------

That's the role Cesc plays for Spain these days.

In midfield positions, Cazorla is considered by Del Bosque to be ahead of Cesc.

I really like Fabregas but I would hate it if he came back to us. His heart belongs to Barca and if we sign him what's stopping him leaving again? Besides, in Midfield we have great plyaers like Wilshere and Santi, so why drop one of them for Farbegas?

Yeah it would be shit to watch one of the best midfielders to play for the club come back and be paired up with Cazorla wouldn't it. His heart may have belonged to Barca when Guardiola was there but he's like all players - if he ain't playing regularly the love will soon disappear, and he would be welcome back any day in my book

Ah, ok - so you're saying Santi is considered ahead of Cesc out wide, not central midfield.

I think that's normal, as playing wide probably suits Pedro, Silva and Cazorla better than Cesc.

I could be wrong, but I think that's the confusion - I think people thought you were talking about central midfield.

Now you've cleared that up, I'd imagine you might find people agree with you.

I include the wide positions as midfield positions. Even when Iniesta came off yesterday for Torres, Cesc was still not playing in his supposed 'favored' position, and it was Cazorla who actually moved into Iniesta's role, while Cesc was just floating about in a free role.
