Re: Besiktas away
Meh, I'd have taken 0 - 0 at the start. It does, however, highlight a lot of our failings however. Giroud isn't anywhere near good enough, but sadly, and insanely, if Wenger were to drop him he'd just be replaced by Sanogo!
Santi was quiet. Sanchez did well and will only get better. Silly from Ramsey but he was still one of our better players. Happy with the defence as well, Debuchy looks good and Chambers is a beast.
We're very much short 3/4 players to compete, so I don't expect any title challenge his year. Maybe in 3 years time!

Ok the positives - the new signings look ok
Negatives - we sold RVP 2 years ago and I am still waiting for his replacement

Re: Besiktas away
I hate it when the oppo's players are waving imaginary cards for fuck all - The ref was an utter pussy - He allowed Bilic to rant and rave and to sway his judgement - there were no bad/dirty tackles - Just little niggles and a bit of shirt pulling - each team doing it...and yet the wanky ref sends off Rambo.
The standard of reffing in the CL is just not good enough.
Wenger should have brought on Campbell and Ox and Rosicky at the same time - It would have upped our tempo and directness and got rid of that carthorse ***** Giroud and the ineffectual carzola
Chambers had a great game only 2 slips - and for his age was Awesome.
Him, Rambo, Alexis and Monreal were our best players.
Without new blood coming in we are fucked for winning any trophies.

I struggle to see the point of Walcott and Sanchez on the wings if Giroud is the outlet ball. How difficult would it be for Wenger to sign a good striker?

Re: Besiktas away
You can't expect us to go and put in a flawless, ruthless display at this stage of the season. But there was so little cohesion and tactically things were just not right, again.
We just look a bit confused at times - with the men they were throwing forward early on and a player like Sanchez, you have to look at counter-attacking. But when he plays like this Giroud is the complete antithesis of counter-attacking. For 90 minutes he laboured around the pitch, the ball didn't stop bouncing off him and he kept giving away needless fouls. He barely did anything right all game. A few half chances fell to him and the one from Ramsey's great flick before half-time was clear-cut - how many fucking times this year will we be saying (AGAIN) that a really good striker would have taken his chance(s) and made the difference?
To me we lacked discipline. That's not to say we didn't muck in defensively, because we rarely over-committed. But there were times when Sanchez was losing the ball and he was chasing it back 30 or 40 yards, and times when Giroud was popping up in our left-back slot searching to win the ball back, which does nothing for the team shape. Our pressing game was a mess with some players standing off and others pressing hard, which is a recipe for disaster.
Second half we looked more solid for me but we went long periods without doing anything with the ball. The Ramsey red card was just needless, that pull-back he still does at times is like a hangover from when his form was abysmal and he was constantly getting robbed. There were a few times where he couldn't quite shift it past a defender in the box but watching him in the first half he's like a different player - a difficult pass fired in and his reading of the game and opposition is so good that one great touch and he'd rolled his man. Also thought Wilshere did pretty well tonight. Koscielny had another very good game and Chambers put in another commendable effort, as did Debuchy - although both nearly cost us a goal either side of half time.
Nearly won it at the end with Chamberlain who showed what confidence and directness does to these average defences. A draw was a fair result, very confident we'll go through at home but 0-0 is a nervy score to be bringing back until you're 2-0 up.

Topgoon he say cheer up you bunch of old fart bags. A clean sheet in Europe should never be sniffed at.
Rambo's second yellow was a bit silly but I'm sure you'd all have been happier that once he lost the ball he should have done a Denilson and let the guy run into the box
Chambers one hesitant moment but after that, Demba Ba is still trying to figure out how to get out of his back pocket. He even switched to Kos and still got no change.
The Ox has to play in place of Rambo next week and WTF,why can't Campbell get a game. I don't get why he doesn't like him. It's probably stubborn BS because of all the praise the boy get at the WC.
Anyway my glass is half full which is rear. At least Bilic's won't be in the Ref's f**king ear every 2mins next week.

Yeah quieter than usual, but I thought he did quite a bit of covering for Arteta and wilshere - the latter kept losing the ball - I think he would have liked to have gotten forward more - through the centre, but because of the way the game was panning out - he played more defensive than he would have liked.officepest wrote:I thought Rambo was pretty quiet OneBard.OneBardGooner wrote:I hate it when the oppo's players are waving imaginary cards for fuck all - The ref was an utter pussy - He allowed Bilic to rant and rave and to sway his judgement - there were no bad/dirty tackles - Just little niggles and a bit of shirt pulling - each team doing it...and yet the wanky ref sends off Rambo.

Totally agree about playing wingers when you have a carthorse in the centre whose touch, effort and timing were Atrocious.
I just keep hoping that Campbell gets his chance to prove he is the best of our strikers...because Sanogo and Giroud - are unbelievably bad.

Feeling confident we'll do enough to get second slot in the group stage and ................................... repeat ad infinitum.
Wenger out.

does it matter if that striker plays up front alone and is marked by 4 in the box whilst the pedestrian midfield sits 40yards out ?officepest wrote:OneBardGooner wrote: I struggle to see the point of Walcott and Sanchez on the wings if Giroud is the outlet ball. thats the issue, not what % of chances Giroud misses - Gerv couldn't do, Chamakh coundn't either, nor Sanogo or Giroud.
there have been very very few strikers that could play that lone role well - off the top of my head, wrighty, Jean Pierre Papin, Klinsmann and a couple of italians.
its wengers system thats the problem NOT the strikers - TH14 couldn't do it no way. 99% strikers need space and support.
wengers an idiot.

Behave Shorty, Jack didn't do badly today.
Topgoon said at half time, we had no runners from midfield and believes it was a conscious decision. Think how few times Rambo supported the forwards yet Jack and Santi did.
Giroud is limited, we know it, sadly on days when he's having a f**king mare AW doesn't see it.
Believe we can take them next week. Just hope we play as negatively as f**k on Saturday as let's face it Besiktas final ball was f**king awful, Everton's under Martinez won't be.
