Outside of Toure and Silva Citeh don't have much if I'm honest. Milner, Rodwell, Nasri, Garcia, Fernandinho? Meh.

Chavs are closest to us in terms of midfield quality and depth, but when you look at their central midfield options, Mikel is average, Lampard and Essien are passed it, Van Ginkel is a nobody. The only one who could get into our team is Ramires.

Chambo is a natural wide midfielder to answer to your lack of natural wide midfielders quip.
I wouldn't say Lampard is past it (or even passed it :D ) but agree with the views on Mikel - he's a bit of a Song type liability. You've got to look at their wider midfield though rather than the 3 holders......Hazard, Oscar, and Mata for starters. They still suffer from a lack of option up front though and was amazed they sent Lukaku back out on loan.

United's midfield can't win them the CL but still managed to stroll off with a very ordinary PL last year

Quip? And that's one natural wide midfielder you've named (and one who has hardly excelled there for a prolonged period).

I know Citeh have a lot of average midfielders too but as Spurs will find out this season the odd class player is often worth more than a squad full of decent/good ones, and whilst our depth is impressive and comforting unless we're planning on fielding 6 CMs then a midfield pairing of Toure and Silva is quite hard to dismiss as comfortably inferior.

Never seen him control a game or turn a game around in our favour, a creation of the British media.
Unpalatable as it may be, he couldn't lace the boots of Stevie G or fat Frank.
Runs around a lot giving the ball away to polite applause for his efforts, I just don't get our fans perception that he is anything other than plain average. We are a selling club, so if he was any good surely someone would have shown an interest in him, and Wenger would be only to pleased to listen to offers.
All seriousness, this isn't a wind up, I just don't see how anyone can rate this guy as special.

He has come back from a very long term injury and it will take him about 6 months to start to reach top potential. If you need a example of that just look at Ramsey. He was shite all last season but so far has been our best player. Oh yeah and Giroud seems to have taken a year to settle in but knows where the goal is now. Wilshere will get better and better.

Get rid of him absolute shit :cussing: This must be the worst thread ever, or was it really just to wind the English up? :cussing:

I've never seen the lad play but to me that's a funny statement. Wilshere was more of a nobody then Van Ginkel before anyone actually saw him play

Pretty much agree with the rest of your post though

You really are a bit of a dick aren't you?  There is quite a reasoned debate on this thread. Very few people (if any?) are saying he is shit. But some feel he is "over-rated". Do you see the difference?

TBH I think he probably is a bit over-rated by the media. He certainly has technical skill, vision and a nice burst of speed but he is not the complete article and a lot of what he has is potential. He might or might not realise that potential at the highest level. I feel he will make it, but at the moment the media are talking about him as if he is some kind of cross between Messi and Vieira, which is silly.

I cant believe anyone can slag jack off, he has such a huge amount of talent and will be one of the best players in the prem for a long time.
I'd much rather be called Dick than Richard anyday

is it me, or does anyone else feel, Jack missing from the team would be a loss. I was watching last nights game and was thinking with everyone fit, we could afford to miss him for a few games,

last season and the start of this one, i felt Jack was irreplacable, but with the signing of Ozil & Flamini, and Ramsey in the form of his life and Cazorla and Arteta to come back. Looks like we might now have a midfield to challenge any in the PL

BTW the i am a big Jack Fan, and hopes he stays for a long, long time :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

1. Saying he's overrated doesn't mean you're slagging him off.

2. Your assessment of where he's at is the type of view that gives credence to the idea that he's vastly overrated.

Going by this thread, I think he's under rated.

The majority consensus opinion trotted out by pundits and journalists and spoon-fed to the masses is far closer to yours.

There's always been a lot of hype about jack, but when I watch him I see why people do rate him, his passing and movement is really good in my opinion, I think when he is 100% fit we will see a lot more from him and see his real ability!
But I do feel he will need to step up his game as a lot of midfield players around him are really doing a job and the last thing we want is jack spending more time on the bench.

Isn't it as simple as the fact that he's having a poor run of form rather than being overrated. It happens to the best of them. Remember the likes of Beckham and Lampard being booed by Ingerlund fans back in the day before winning over 100 caps.

When a talented Englishman comes along the expectations are ridiculous - simply because we don't produce many !

If he was French people wouldn't be banging on about it so much. Pretty much since he broke into the team he's been outstanding but this season he's struggling for form. Still not sure he's got the injuries out of his system yet

Me too, but wide left isn't the place for Jack. But with that said, he did well for our second goal.

He's a cracking player but he needs to stay injury free for a while to reach his potential. Talk of him being England's saviour and future captain etc is highly premature but he's a very good prospect and is already good enough to be able to get into pretty much any side in the league (or at least be pushing for a place). Good to see an English midfielder like him coming through to be honest, he won't sparkle every game but with the right support from within his club (and in that respect its good that he's at Arsenal) he will become an absolutely top player in the next 3 years or so. He's got everything that you need, especially the technical side which you can't really coach, just needs time and experience to perfect it. Seems to be a bit of a knob off the pitch like - if he can keep that in check and hopefully stop looking like he's been shot every time he gets touched then he'll be fine.
