Mikael Silvestre

If he has come to be "the bring him on for 10 mins at the end to shore things up player" I think it could be good, but if he has come to be frist choice CB or even worse LB then I have a real concern.

If he has come as a utility squad player then why not stay at Manure and do that? I worry the boss has promised him first team starts. If so what does that do to Kolo and Gael? Assuming he isn't going next to Cesc!

So answer me why different to Campbell or Gallas?

:?
Sol showed a lot of balls coming here and SPurs had obviously pissed him off. He helped us win the double and became one of The greatest defenders in the history of the club.

Gallas is not my favourite player, or person, but he left CSKA on a bad note as well and is very much an Arsenal man now.

The only thing that gonna stop me feeling physically sick of SIlvestre as an ARsenal player is if he does enough to become a real Gooner, rather than what the obvious reasons for him coming here would have been.

I still cant get past the fact that (a) we have signed another injury prone player and (b) we have given him a 2 year deal when players that had given us great service like DB10 & pires were forced to accept 1 years deals

As a player I am not doubting his quality and always thought he was quite good in the air actually and I could not care less which club he played for in his career. I am really really afraid that there is a possibility that toure will be pushed into midfield now and wenger will stick with what he has got then. I know that if you put your "common sense hat" on you would quickly dismiss that thought but we have seen over the last few seasons than common sense and Arsenal/arsene do not always go hand in hand

So the 100k a week didn't swing Sol?

Gallas has taken time to become an Arsenal man in your eyes!

So what the hell is wrong with giving Silvestre the same time?

Do you think he was going to join Man City for 10k a week? No he wasnt or any other club that was touting for his signature.

Read this from a manure fan on F365 and it cheered me up.
An Open Letter To Sir Alex...
If Mikael Silvestre is indeed sold, who exactly is our cover for Patrice Evra? Chances are good he will be suspended/injured at some point during the coming season. I ask you who plays left back in that situation? I'm racking my brains and the only people I can come up with are Fabio Da Silva (who cannot be ready yet, can he?) or that 'jack of all trades' gobshite John O'Shea, a guy whose lack of ambition has meant his footballing development has gone furiously backwards from his electrifying first season with United.

And while we are on the topic of the transfer to Silvestre, you are going to let him go to Arsenal? TO ARSENAL!! Why, after fighting tooth and nail to prevent Heinze move to Liverpool would you now voluntarily allow a rival manager to strengthen his squad to the detriment of your own. Why the hell would you be willing to help Arsene Wenger solve one his biggest squad deficiences (namely cover for left back and centre half). And not even for a decent-sized transfer fee. I mean I could begin to get my head round it if we were charging Arsenal something ridiculous like 10 million, but I think in the cicumstances it would serve United better for Silvestre to be bunged into the reserves for a year than have him play for a title rival. Seriously Sir Alex, if you've got some hidden master plan, I'm dying for the big reveal.

If it has pissed them off that much then that is worth the transfer fee alone!

Sol could have got those money, and probably more, at Barca or ManUre. Plus he had to leave PSurs for football reasons, to have a chance to win titles and play CL football. So I really don't think you can compare Silvestre to him.

Although, I accept Gallas now if I could have gone back in time I'd rather have got the extra 15m from Cska than Gallas.

I think the reasons you have given show how easy it is to compare Campbell and Silvestre.

Who is to say that he could'nt have got more at Man City or Sunderland, they are throwing huge wages about?

Also with reagrds to playing Champions League football and the chance to win titles.............is that not exactly what we are trying to acheive this season?

See where you're coming from. AW is nothing if not pragmatic and I believe he knows the lack of experience has gone further now than at anytime in his 12 years with us so he has to bite the bullet on this occasion.

Gues Manuel's agent will be knocking on the boss' door soon! :D

yeah im pissed off about that fact as well a quality midfielder good for at least 10 goals a season and a great servant to the club only offered one year deals and this fella gets two :banghead:

If he has come as a utility squad player then why not stay at Manure and do that?
because he wants more then six games that he got last season?

Experience will be useful, versatile depth which would allow Traore to go on loan, Song will probably now be a holding squad player then a cb squad player. I think we will need him to play a few games to find form as he may be rusty from having played so little

On the one/two year contract issue, I think the difference is that he is coming to the club as opposed to already being with the club and getting an extension. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but I think that is the reason for the difference.
