Steve Stammers in The Daily Mirror:
Wenger will decide between Roque Santa Cruz of Blackburn and Andrei Arshavin of Zenit St Petersburg. He has also had encouraging reports about another Zenit player, central defender Ivica Krizanac. The 29-year-old would cost close to £7m.
Andrew Allen on Sport.co.uk:
Portsmouth's highly rated defender Sylvain Distin has fuelled speculation linking him with a move away from Fratton Park but insists that he is yet to speak to any potential suitors, including Arsenal.

I know that it is only latching onto stories published yesterday in the english media but the Irish Indo has us shay given joining us for £5m. It goes on to quote steve gerrard who after yesterdays game called given a world class keeper. If any of the arsene knows brigade could explain to me why wenger would turn his nose up at buying a world class keeper like given for £5m over retaining average almunia as our number 1 I would appreciate it cos we all know that deep down aint no keeper joining us in jan

Arsenal Football Club are plotting a shock move for Park Ji-sung.
The South Korean international is out of contract at the end of next season, and he admits so far he has heard little from Manchester United about a fresh deal to remain at Old Trafford.
"I only have one more year left on my contract and there has been no contact about a new deal yet," he said in the News of the World. "I want to stay here, but we'll have to wait and see.
"I'm not letting myself become too worried. I just want to concentrate on playing well and, hopefully, we'll talk. If I play well and show that I'm an asset to the team then maybe I'll get a new contract."
It has been suggested in his homeland that Park is a shock target for Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, who is looking to add to his midfield options and is willing to pay £3.5million for the 27-year-old.

Won't happen. Arteta hates Cesc. He's got too much pride to be his replacement.QuartzGooner wrote:From sport.co.uk

i know he has been suggested on here before but we really do NEED someone like Loric Cana, captain at marseille, he can be a little hot tempered but then so were viera and keane (without it would they really have had the pressence on the pitch that they did) also this guy can actually play football not a 1 trick pony.

Have to say that I would never have thought of arteta as a possible signing until arseblog mentioned it last week and after reading his thoughts on it I agree 100% that he would be an ideal replacement in that he can play centrally until cesc returns and then play out wide and of course he has great delivery from set pieces which is something that we could always do with

i remember cesc saying they were the best of friends so where did the cesc hates arteta come fromSWLGooner wrote:Won't happen. Arteta hates Cesc. He's got too much pride to be his replacement.QuartzGooner wrote:From sport.co.uk

Lads, I think Wenger really should get Given and Ilner from Inter. Given is a top class player and would definitely create much more Interest in the club over here. I've watched Ilner and is a fantastic player, probably the only Swiss player to stand out during the summer and is really class on the ball with Inter. Both of which will cost Wenger but they are well worth it.

From youngguns.wordpress.com courtesy of J Sanderson:
Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement with São Paulo based outfit Mirassol for the permanent signing of young defender Luis Gustavo Conte.
The details of the contract are a little unclear, as Mirassol suggest they can not sell the player at such a young age due to FIFA rules, but a deal to help develop Conte until he is only enough to move to London seems to be on the table.
Luis recently completed a 10 day trial with the Gunners, where he was shown around local colleges and even completed 45 minutes of match action during the 8-4 victory over Norwich Under 16’s.
