THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Just a collection of repetitive, boring, vindictive attacks on Wenger; no reasoned thinking, no awareness of the bigger picture, just knee-jerk reactions to any defeats.
But I'm sure it's makes people feel good about themselves.
Asinine comment tbh. Calling the desire to have Wenger replaced "knee jerk" is pathetic and incredibly uninformed. We won the FA Cup last year and every single WOB on here still wanted Wenger out afterwards, hardly a knee jerk reaction to a defeat is it?

It was great that we won the FA Cup and many of us were happy HE won it particularly after Moron-hio's disgraceful comments BUT it is "awareness of the bigger picture" that makes us want him gone because we will never be more than a 4th place, occasional cup team whilst he is in charge.
I think LaughingGooner brillantly encapsulates the problem as it is and has been for years. A contributor who has a different opinion but would prefer to attacke the posters, than produce any of the reasoned thinking that he claims is lacking.

This has been going on on this site for years.

Very true. There have been one or two Wenger defenders on here that are very good posters (Bendtners Drinking Buddy springs to mind) and are capable of having a reasoned and intelligent debate, but the vast majority of pro-Wenger posters have been of the type that tell people to "fuck off and support the chav$".

To be fair both sides are guilty of that it was only last night Babatunde told some to get wengers cock out of their mouth after defending him  and to Babatundes supporters that was hilarious :banghead:

" knee-jerk" is what the media would have us believe we are . It is unfair on people who are passionate about their football club , "fickle" is another word used if there are murmurings of dissent.

I am not fickle , I support Arsenal FC and I passionately believe that the best interests of my club would be served with a change from manager up. This is not a knee jerk reaction. It is a considered view that pains me to have at times. It is a view I have held for a few years , it was in my mind that change was necessary that viewpoint was cemented by the 4-4 in Newcastle. I would rather be celebrating the virtues and strengths of my club and it's manager , but I cannot because there are no strengths there at this time. I didn't pay good money to go to Stoke so I cannot complain about the reaction of supporters in the train station. What I can say is they ARE Arsenal supporters regardless of what the media and Wenger supporters say. I didn't sing "there's only one..." at The Emirates during the Newcastle game either. Yet I read and heard the generalisation that all Arsenal fans are fickle because of these two contrasting situations. Supporters who support Wenger are fully entitled to do so but those who don't have equal entitlements so please do not brush us off with words like knee-jerk and fickle. We are neither.

True. But (to take a leaf from NB123's bullet-pointing book) ;

1. Baba is a twonk.

2. His groupies are twonks.

3. (On Here) The majority of AKB's are abusive, the MINORITY of WOB's are abusive/stupid/Baba.

what about those of us who wanted him out back in 2010? how is it knee-jerk when we've wanted him gone for almost 5 fucking years now? that knee-jerk comment from laughinggooner was so stupid i can't even fathom.

this forum may be stale, but thats because what is there to discuss? 95% of us know we arent going to win anything, we know he club isnt good enough, we KNOW wenger needs to leave, we know he's not going to sign anyone of real significance, we know he will not strengthen our CDM or CBs, we know he will have zero tactics and man management in big games, we know there will be pointless/terrible substitutions at 70 mins, we know the handbrake was on and the team was physically jaded, we know good players will continue to be played out of position, we know our formation will never change even when the players don't fit it, we know wenger can't zip a coat and we know the virtual trophy is all he needs to continue with this pointless shit for another 2 years.

so what is there to debate? its pointless. its sad.

If/When the senile old c.unt does leave, this place will get a sense of excitement that it hasnt seen in years - all of a sudden there will be a new manager to assess, new tactical formations to analyse, new player recruitment policies to discuss....it could really spark this place into life and entice old members back and new members to join 8)

1. that is the problem. 1 FAC and Shield in 10 seasons.

2. which is not good enough given our resources since 2004, ticket prices and the managers high wages compared to his peers.

3. those that do, do not put that win in context - which is no wins against the top five - regular large bumholings away, regular humiliations against small clubs here and in Europe, and boring football.

anything can look good in context - even Katie Price looks fit in a dark alley....

The charity shield is not a trophy it's a glorified friendly. Yes it was nice to beat one of the big boys for once but City being 13 points ahead of us at the halfway stage of the league tells you the true story.

That is actually a fair point because when we look back in 20 years time people will view that success as Wenger maybe doing something right.
It is also the reason why the majority of people at the Emirates have not turned on Wenger and are unlikely to do so until his contract is up, as he will still be able to win enough matches against the increasing dross which is the Premier League.

ps wake me up in 2017.

Bigger picture?

Quite simple in my opinion:

A man called Stan owns most of the club
He wants to make a profit.
Wenger's player trading and consistent record of Champions League qualification makes him a profit.
The owner spends enough to get us into the Champions League.
It appears that spending more would not guarantee us a title, so he does not spend more.
The finer details of the squad matter little to him, as long as he makes a profit.

Err, that's it.
