vermaelen leaving for united is akin to silvestre going to us. I actually think it's hilarious that they've started their summer business in this manner, he has to build a new defence and he signs someone who even wenger knows is past it. We'll make a couple of signings, they aren't going to be world class and everyone knows it but of course wenger will replace tv5 with someone of equal ability. I like to lambast wenger as much as anyone but I'm not really worried at this moment.
Agree, anyone using this as a stick to beat the manager with is just getting carried away with their hatred for him.
Vermaelen is our captain in name only, Wenger is quite soft with sticking by shit players,he dropped him like a bad habbit, that speaks volumes, he started well but take away the goals he scored and he was always a bit suspect defensively and we are certainly not strengthening a rival, if anything we are stopping them strengthening as they wont be buying someone better than our 3rd choice centre back whos only use in the last 18 months has been to pen the programe notes.
A bit of perspective is seriously needed on this one, theres not many who wanted him anywhere near the side last year so let him go and lets get someone fresh in.
So when Per or Kos get an injury what will the solution be if we let TV go ?
Sagna ? ooops nope too late.
Wenker " we have Carl who can play there too" he can't even yet play in his first choice position.
Well Sagna should never be the soloution because that is just supporting his penny pinching ways and TV would be no better than playing Jenkinson in his current form, it seems some of you just want to use whatever to suit your own feelings of hate.
What happens if Kos or Mertersacker gets injured? Our 3rd choice centre back will come in and cover (whoever that will be) theres no point clinging on to players who want to leave or are not good enough anymore, replace them.

That is way OTT man - I like TV5 and feel sorry for him and understand his need to go, but to compare him to Silvestre goes way beyond offensive and disrespectful. The bottom line, and I argued this on here at the time, is that tv5 and kos cannot work together as a partnership because the balance wasn't right, but either of them with BFG would work - sadly for tv5 he got injured at a bad time so it allowed kos to build up that partnership with mert, but it could just as easy be kos who is out in the cold right now. The guy is tenacious in the tackle and is 100% committed but he needs someone like mertesacker to organise him and instill some defensive/positional discipline in his game.
If he goes to manure I will be very disappointed - not anywhere near the level of cesc joining chavs and not disappointed with the player himself, but disappointed that yet again we are willing to sell to our rivals and are not learning from our mistakes. As I said, I will be disappointed but definitely not shocked
Its not OTT at all, he is gone and is not the player he seemed to be in that first year, his commitment is irrelivant, Jenkinson is as commited as you can get but no one wants him replacing Sagna, ask yourself this, would you rather see United buy Vermaelen or Hummels? I fail to see them signing someone who has clearly lost a yard of everything as strengthening them, if they signed Koscienly than we would have reason to be upset but most of us prayed that Koscienly and Mertersacker stayed fit last year so he could stay on the bemch as he was becoming a liability.
I can understand why he would want to leave, as BFG & Kos are now the established CB pairing, but to sell to manure FFS ! ...The club should have an unbreakable policy that we do NOT sell ANY of our players to any other prem clubs - unless the player is without doubt absolute sh*t - or a permanent injury costing us bucket loads of wonga - So why not sell Abou Diaby ! Now THAT would be good business.

Wouldn't care if he goes to United if he was replaced with someone like Caulker (whos been linked recently) it is the fear of not being replaced that is more worrying than losing the player.
And you think Caulker is going to come and sit on our bench every week? I personally think Vermaelen is sufficient for back-up CB but if you're advocating replacing him you have to be realistic about the calibre of a replacement bench-warmer.

Sit on the bench for a CL team where you will get games or play in the Championship???
Let me think....
Vermaelen is sufficent when the threat of selling him to a rival is there, when its not he is a liability and very few would want him.anywhere near the first team.
