THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Heaven forbid that anyone would get involved in a multiple page spat with HighburyJD eh mate?

Anyway, I've let him have his ball back now, so all is rosey in the Gooner garden once more

"If you look at how many teams have done that in Europe, you will find very few and that shows it is not easy," said Wenger. "It is a massive satisfaction because I am so many times with my back to the wall, accused of not spending fortunes.

"It is important as well to show that we can do it, with the way we do it, that is with the club in a good financial situation and with the players coming from our youth development. There are many different ways to be successful and I am very happy that our way is one of them."

Translation:
Arsenal was able to qualify for the 13th times in a row for the final of the last 16 teams.
'It makes me proud. To show this consistency of the highest level of this competition, that is the most difficult' Wenger said.

So I guess he is in smooth control 8)

Cheers,
Thomas

Those quotes are some of the saddest things I've ever read. A once great manager reduced to being a harping braggart with nothing to brag about... :(

Just in time for the old contract extension discussions

One Arsene Wenger.........there's only one Arsene Wenger

We're a few weeks away from hearing the old "dizzying prices" and "two transfer markets" quotes :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

He did say some nice things about Fergie too:

More from Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, paying tribute to his old adversary Sir Alex Ferguson, who has now been in charge at Old Trafford for 26 years: "What I admire maybe the most in him is his forward-thinking. He is always ready to move with the times and never speaks about what he has done before.

"It is a job where you need to dedicate your life to football and Ferguson has done that and that deserves massive respect."

What a lovely gracious manager - now where is that bloody contract extension??? My real patience is wearing out - I don't want the world to end and 1996 Arsenal to suddenly cease to exist and the sun to fall out of the sky. Give me the certainty I crave that we'll be competing for the Virtual Trophy until 2017 at least

Shameful indeed. And people still wonder why Wenger has become so disliked by the same people who used to love him.

I'm expecting to pick up the Evening Standard and read Patrick Barclay's latest gushing tribute to the Coach of the Decade and this 13 years statistic will be used along with phrase "surely now those that doubted Wenger in the Summer have realised the error of their ways"

All that's missing now is our wonderful chairman to come out with another belter stating how proud he is of the man that's worked in football for 30 years and how we're all a bunch of shameful, impatient morons for daring to question how Lord Wenger runs his Arsene-al Empire

Honestly, it should be a sackable offence, saying things like he has. It's just unbelievable... No ambition whatsoever. How the fuck is that supposed to inspire the players? :|
