The "real Issue" for me is that IF Santi does leave...then that would be another BIG f*ck up by Wenger - he doesn't sign Cesc because he thinks we have too many similar type players in mid-field, only then to lose Santi - because of his lack of ability in the transfer market as a manager.

Reminds me of Wenger allowing an under contract Diarra to leave in January 2008 because he had Gilberto and was 'confident' that Flamini would sign a new deal ... despite only have months to run on his contract. As we all know quickly went from having 3 defensive midfielders to none and had to rely on the likes of Denilson, Song and later Arteta.

When it comes to these kind of decisions plus the selling of several players to rival clubs, it does make it feel like the club is always trying to progress by walking up a down escalator
