If you haven't seen it yet, you need to watch "The Book Thief".

Really good dramatization of life in Nazi Germany as viewed through the eyes of a young girl.

9/10

It's either 6.7% or 67%, but I can't be sure which.

You didnt think it was a "Merica" pro-war propaganda piece? Idk. The film itself is good, acting great. But I feel like its pro war, killing "savages" (Chris Kyle's words), and completely misleads the audience. It cuts from seeing scenes of 9/11 to him fighting Iraqis who had NOTHING to do with 9/11, but it leads you to believe they did, when in fact it was G.W. Bush who persuaded America into war with Iraq because of "WMDs" even though that was proven false.

I just thought it was a good film. Director (C.Eastwood) makes it 'come alive' simple.

Still very sad at the end.

ps: By the very nature of the subject matter and what happens to ALL parties in the film - It IS an anti-war movie even if it does not mean to be.

I haven’t read the book, and to be honest, from what little I know about Kyle I don’t feel a strong urge to seek out the film either.

I know people are not black and white, but he seemed a rather unpleasant character and this appears to be a recruiting officer’s wet dream.

It is unfortunate that you say Eastwood seems to tacitly lend weight to the Iraq/Sep 11th link and I wonder if this has anything to with the very significant proportion of US citizens that still believe it.

Eastwood is a conundrum; on the one hand he is a Republican (and the Obama empty chair stunt was pretty stupid), but as a director I have little problem with him. His diptych Flags of Our Fathers and especially Letters from Iwo Jima I thought pretty even handed.

I suppose I’ll have to read/watch and make my own mind up.

Saw it a while ago and agree it was good. Imagine the book would be good too

Thats a good review. The film has stirred up a hearty debate among armchair tough guy conservatives and hippie liberals here in the states.

The timing of the release couldnt have been any better for Eastwood either, with all the anti muslim stuff going on in the world right now.
