agree all the way, what is the point in being in a competition year after year after year if you will never ever win it,a year out of it might kick Wiggy up the arse, get the AKB's finally to see sense and get Wenker out of the door, doubtful but you never know but we defo need a new way to remove him or hasten his departure or at least know he is going and not in a wooden box in 20 years timeIkechukwu1 wrote:The hilarious point absolutely no one here is mentioning: if one of Everton (unlikely but possible), Liverpool (highly possible) or Spuds (again highly possible) win the Europa League, then 4th place becomes hilariously redundant, as the EL winners will be allocated the extra CL place as of this year (4th place goes to the Europa).
So let Le Twat show off about maybe pipping oil money Southampton to 4th. It'll be all the funnier if the Scousers win the Europa!![]()
Honestly think it's about time another team got a go in the CL and for the good of the league I truly hope thats Southampton. They'll get a huge boost from the extra income, be able to attract better players and let's face it, have as much chance of winning it as Arsenal do (I.e Zero!).
Arsenal in the CL has become unfunny and it's clearly a level too high for our club, evidenced by the fact we get smashed the first decent team we face in a KO. Europa League is a lower tactical and quality level, and as the ultimate flat-track bullies, it'd suit Wenker perfectly. Having said that, I still can't see him winning that either - I mean he couldn't even overcome 10-man Galatassaray in a final, when he had superior players to what he has now!![]()

Prize money for finishing 1st last season = £24.7.
We're all fans, we want to see our club take the step to go the extra three places. I also strongly believe that Wenger wants to win as well, if he didn't he would've stopped in 2005. However, from a purely financial point of view I can understand why it's safer to go for 4th and why the board want that. It would take upwards of £35m to get us to those extra places for £3.7m, i.e. making a loss to win the league, which isn't sustainable. It's extremely frustrating but unfortunately the club's still run as a business as opposed to a plaything like Chelsea or Man City.

Btw I agree Augie, there are added financial benefits to winning the league, however these aren't easily quantifiable and the accountants and money men prefer to budget on income that's easy to foresee.

For the CL 2015/16 UEFA have decided, in their wisdom, to allow 5 teams from the same association.

The point is though that for this £35million investment we haven't 'won anything' yet, and that's the problem.augie wrote:Mistical92 wrote:Prize money for finishing 4th last season = £21m.armchair wrote:Then theres Wenger himself, the accountant who is happy to finish fourth because in his eyes the financial outlay required to compete for first is not worth the financial reward that winning brings in compared to what finishing fourth brings.

Try looking a bit deeper than face value ffs![]()
1. Winners attract more fans. More fans = more merchandise = more profits
2. Winners attracts more sponsors. More sponsors = more profits
And even if we did invest this £35m ( or however much, maybe £80m ) then Chelsea and Man. City will be able to match that quite easily.
The facts are that we get CL football every season, and we have ALWAYS got a chance of winning a Knock Out Competition.
The facts may not back this up, but theoretically we have a chance. A couple of good/lucky results and we are in the Final, and then anything is possible.
We've got Monaco next, so that should see us safely through ( fingers crossed ), and then in the next draw no-one is seeded, so we could get the winner of FC Basel-Porto, who we should beat, and then we're in the semis!
Then the competition is wide open. One good day ( preferably two ) and we're in the Final.
Wenger definitely wants the Champions League, that's the only thing he's interested in. It would complete his CV.
No point in investing the extra money for a possibility of the Premier League, because then his job might be in danger, with him not earning enough for Kroenke, but 4th and a chance at the CL? Perfect.
I really hope he gets it this year, and then he can leave with his head held high.
Wouldn't that be brilliant.
The Arsenal Champions League Winners 2015, and Wenger announcing that Steve Bould will be taking over from him, with DB10 coming as assistant. Shall I make it better? TH coming back as well?
No, no, I think CL Winners and Wenger going, that's enough for me.

True. Except we are in the 2014/15 season and the 5 competitors rule comes in effect after the winner of the 2015/16 competition is declared (ie you can get 5 teams in the 2016/17 season - you can't next season)Babu wrote:That's actually not the case.Ikechukwu1 wrote:The hilarious point absolutely no one here is mentioning: if one of Everton (unlikely but possible), Liverpool (highly possible) or Spuds (again highly possible) win the Europa League, then 4th place becomes hilariously redundant, as the EL winners will be allocated the extra CL place as of this year (4th place goes to the Europa).

no, no they won't. because they will never judge wonga on one game or season - unless we win.IW8Goalmachine wrote:For things to change quick the horrible has to happen and I believe that it's going to happen this year. The tiny tots will finish in the top 4 and we won't, as horrible as that sounds if it does happen then surely all the AKBs will see the club needs change.
all losses and failures are seen as individual, and all successes and wins seen as successive.
the AKB's are all those who basically can't admit that they were wrong about wenger because of their own egos. WOB's are those that have manned up and admitted they were wrong at some stage - like my good self in 2011.
the only way AKB's would man up would be if we got relegated, otherwise they can always find someone else to blame - and relegation will never happen because we have too much cash and talent to do that.
its a lose-lose situation.
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
tis sad but true clockender,as someone mentioned earlier even if we fail to qualify for the CL the AKB's will say he deserves more time to see if he can turn it around,i reckon even relegation wouldn't change their minds, they'd still say he needs more timeclockender1 wrote:no, no they won't. because they will never judge wonga on one game or season - unless we win.IW8Goalmachine wrote:For things to change quick the horrible has to happen and I believe that it's going to happen this year. Re: THE WENGER THREAD
as much as it may be good that we dont get top 4 to try and hope AW fucks off, im delighted with that so long as the scum dont get it. for them to get it would be a disaster right now as its absolutely critical for them. they are having huge difficulty funding the rebuild of shite hart lane, but cl would give them a huge boost for that and it could transform them (i know it didnt under melt face, but now they are desperately scratching around for funds for stadium)
