Transfer Rumours Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Well done Sir. :D Did make me laugh.

@AA23Northbank - agreed that they would probably all be gone on the last day, and we would be stuck with the Carling Cup team, but would that be that bad?

At least they have something to prove, which it looks like most of our 'first team' haven't any more.
True, we would be looking at a team of:

Sczesny, Sagna, Djourou, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Wilshere, Ramsey, Song, Gervinho, Walcott, RVP.

Not too bad, but issues at Centre-Back and a holding midfielder would not be addressed, as well as no back-up LB for Gibbs (assuming he is no 1). And no top-class creative midfielder to replace Cesc or Nasri.

If we were to sign Ribery I wouldn't mind if we got a centre-half and holding midfielder in and get a bit of steel in the team, but we need to be looking at these areas as a matter of urgency rather than any more attacking players

I'm still convinced we will get a top-class centre back in. Don't ask me who though, but surely that has to happen.

I also thought Frimpong looked like he was made of the right stuff, although I will admit to preferring someone with a bit of experience at that position.

And of course just a couple of injuries ( and there are a few obvious candidates ) will see the whole team cave in.

But in a way I could really imagine that the team ( without Walcott, btw, as he is already in the comfort zone ) might really be able to achieve something. OK, maybe not the PL, but I would imagine that they would give 100%, give the fans something to get behind - which would also help them, and would still manage to finish 4th, and maybe pick up a cup.

Oh, and Ribery.   Yeah, right!  I wish though!

Ribery would only add to our problems. He's as thick as the Berlin wall and he would be a nuisance to the dressing room!

We all know Wenger is far too concerned with financing of the club. But in an era of Man City, where the fair play rule is bollocks, it doesn't matter.

I'ld like to think we would have someone who would just tell Wenger to give him the names and then he goes out to negotiate the deal. Involve Wenger at some level, but never have a manager involved in naming a price straight up. The Scwarzer thing last year was embarassing and a prime example of what is wrong with Wenger atm.

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty says Everton have turned down a £10m offer from Arsenal for England defender Phil Jagielka. The offer is £2m less than the Gunners offered for him last summer.
BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty on Twitter: "So Arsene Wenger now faces a familiar dilemma. Increase Jagielka bid substantially or look elsewhere as urgency increases for Arsenal."
Going in the right direction at least....
