Old gits terrace legends

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

John is still alive and lives in near Newcastle & Tenerife. He's got a son & a daughter. His daughter appeared many times as a main character in Byker Grove.
He stll goes to some Arsenal games and the we were at Anfield for the Mickey Thomas's last minute game. Our worst moment was going to the Leeds game in the 60's when only around 4,700 people turned up. The last time I saw him was in Paris for the Champions League Final.
We renamed the North Bank ourselves which used to be called the Laundry End. We stole the name from West Ham who had a North Bank first. Ours eventually became more famous and the club changed the signs outside.
Johnny & Me played football for Arsenal Supporters Club in the Supporters Club League which was disbanded as there was too much trouble during and after the games. Other teams were Spurs, Man U, Glasgow Rangers (London Based), West Ham and others. We won the league and cup double in the late 60's.
A reunion fororiginal North Bankers is planned for May next year.
my old man heard about this, something to do with n***y p****y 60th birthday or something aint it? i think he wants a 3 day bender in spain, but my old man is going to give it a miss cause he says one session has him fucked for days now and he was never really close to p****y as he did his own thing most of the time. we were in america and my dad told me that johnny hoy got the reputation because he was always the first one to throw a punch in a ruck, but there was 300 others steaming in behind him most of the time, but said he was the top boy of the era. strangely enough, he mentioned that leeds game and said he was there and he was freezing his balls off :D :D

John Dickinson is the lad you're thinking of. The 1st Anniversary of Denton's death is 5th October. Coincidentally we play Sunderland that weekend as we did last year. Some of Sunderland's lads joined us on the march for Denton.
i was there that day middle of north bank , i got a black eye , but it felt good , fight for my arsenal .
Now they were the days, 82 West Ham in the Northbank with a smoke bomb ,i was 16 to 17 and got split lip ,black eye and a kick up the ribs for my troubles but still a good day out ,dont let that West Ham mob tell you they had it all their own way not true we had results against them and all the so called top firms. It was all down to your luck on the day and how many numbers you could rumble up, I can even remember one freezing cold winters night around the same time having Chelsea on their toes right across Highbury fields totally outnumbered by us, and always the legendery meetings with the scum from shite hart lane i think still to this day goes on simmering quitely out of the way of the watchful eye

Must have played at the same time, I was keeper for the reserve side, and Alvin another WHU lad was keeper for the first team.

Got a photo of the presentation evening with Les Cardy RIP, Kenny H , Eddie S, Micky C, Charlie Mc, etc.

Was meant to be at the reunion in May but couldn't make it.

Phoned Eddie S on the day heard it was a good one.

By the way had something to do with the renaming of the North Bank as well if you see what I mean.

If you see John give him my regards.

Anyone remember when Arsenal screened a Spuds game that was being played at Shite Hart Lane? Must have been about 10 years or so ago now. Anyway, the screen that was on the pitch was viewed from the North Bank lower tier. The scum scored first and 2 spuds somehow thought it would be a good idea and watch the game at Highbury. Their short celebration was met by a barage of hotdogs, drink and fists before the old bill managed to pull them out.

old gits

Post by stevedagooner »

does anyone recall chelsea away at the begining of the 70's. i just remember standing in front of the arsenal supporters who had got into the shed before chelsea came in. the police decided to surround them and kept them there the whole game. me and a mate were on the outside of this cordon surrounded by not so friendly chelsea nutters. i seem to remember the arsenal fans all wearing black shirts that day. anyone know the reason.

Early 70s when I first went away to Chelsea, we were always in the shed and for a few years previously before my time from what I was told. I don't specifically remember one where Arsenal fans were wearing black shirts tho. I was probably wearing a crombie overcoat and dms  8)
