Don't get me wrong - I do think he deserved one - but there must be many who deserved one ahead of him. Still think its about time we forgave George Graham for one....
And Henry could sign for ANYONE in January......how embarrassing that could be!

....Spurs? Citeh? Not sure we should be putting up statues (memorials...?) to people who are still playing....Irish Gooner wrote:you obviously get embarrassed easily so!MK Gould wrote:Agree about the '71 side.....but we've been around for 125 years now and Adams is the first to deserve a statue....?spoona wrote:McLintock should have been one, captain of our first double winning team, cant believe the 71' side has been overlooked.

Re: Legends Statues
It is a good idea.
Not sure how many more are needed though, as there are those photos and descriptions of many players around the stadium, which I like.
Perhaps if any more statues to be added I would be in favour of McLintock, Rice and Wright, perhaps Brady, Vieira and Pires, but not many more than that.
I think it inevitable that there will be one of Wenger when he retires, regardless of his reign 2009+ and current fan hostility he deserves one for his achievements before then.

It's pretty criminal that Rocky isn't commemorated in any way in my opinion...QuartzGooner wrote:It is a good idea.

I think a bust next to Chapman is more than enough recognitionQuartzGooner wrote:I think it inevitable that there will be one of Wenger when he retires, regardless of his reign 2009+ and current fan hostility he deserves one for his achievements before then.

Re: Legends Statues
Statues, busts, murals, bridges ... all very tacky and lacking class I think. The exception was the bust of Chapman that sat in the marble halls. That was the sort of understated class Arsenal (used to!) specialise in. And it wasnt there when he was alive either - which is a crucial difference.
Ask yourself why nobody felt the need for statues when the club still had a bit of class. Is it because there was no need at one time to come up with this kind of contrived nonsense in an attempt to cover up our recent shortcomings as a proper club and an English institution?
This ''Arsenalisation'' (hate that word!) is a load of shite in my opinion. If Arsenal were run by real Arsenal people then most things would have been done right from day one. The big fuss the club made when they moved the clock into the ground was excrutiating to watch ... it was 4 years after the ground opened for goodness sake! Its not a case of better late than never either ... its a case of being utterly clueless!
Statues of players are not right because of how many it leaves out. Football and Arsenal's history on the pitch has been a collective effort.
Of course Bergkamp getting a statue is certainly justified if really we must have statues of former players. But even then him getting his well over a year since the first unveilings clearly suggests that he isnt as high as Henry and Adams in the pecking order that some faceless committee has come up with on our behalf.
We all know how much Arsenal's regime like to pat themselves on the back so why not just have a 100ft statue of Ken Friar looming over the ground like the statue of the Christ in Rio and be done with it !

Re: Legends Statues
I don't mind statues of club legends like TA6 outside the ground - not tacky at all in itself in my view.
But this 'Arsenalisation' bollocks as if waiting 6 years to unveil a few statues is meant to make up for razing our home to the ground on false pretences is a joke. Don't get me wrong, I welcome attempts to try and inject some character into our corporate bowl but the impact imo has been absolutely minimal - all we've got is basically a load of Wenger propaganda on the walls about winning the right way etc that fucks me off a little more each time I go as it's become synonymous with his stubbornness and our failures.
And why does it need Arsenalisation still 7 years after moving there - did nobody think that a splash of paint and a crest here or there wouldn't go amiss before it opened? Or did they think it was a fucking cracking idea for the stadium to be completely grey on the inside?

Re: Legends Statues
they didn't think about the fans when they built it. they were thinking more about customers.
A statue of DB with the others is overdue. i hope its the 3rd goal celebration from against the spuds in 1997. which will be similar to TH14's but feck it.
IMHO AW does not deserve a statue or a bust. Chapman got his in memoriam of his life and death while still manager of Arsenal and the fact that he changed world football.
AW only changed Arsenal. Yes he won trophies in his first 7 years, but his legacy is 16 years in total and counting.
He deserves as much as George, who turned the club around and won us some trophies. ie recognition but not worship.
