Always been mate. He's underrated because he spent a lot of his career at Villareal and was too loyal to them hence he didn't get the recognition he warranted which he would have gotten had he played for a 'bigger' club.

Can't believe how many on here have been sceptical about him. He'll prove to be the signing of the summer, no question.

Happy days.

I have to confess I knew next to nothing about him until this summer.

First impressions are very good, so lets hope he has the mentality to match his obvious talent.

It was our fans that were booing Van Persie, it was around a 50/50 split between booing and supporting. I personally did neither.

Actually it nearly caused a fight amongst our lot down the front of the stand, stewards had to come in to split them up. The Van Persie fans stayed behind when he was doing sprints after the final whistle to show their support but it was a mixed reaction on the whole, it seemed to me like the majority of the gooners supporting him were our foreign fans so he could be in for a tough time on Saturday.

Good trip though, my only blight was i could not find a pub for the life of me in Neumarkt after the game to watch the German Super Cup in, so i just bought some beer and drank it outside the cathedral whilst waiting on my train to Weeze.

the Van Persie issue needs sorting this week.

you can't have the club captain leading the team out on Saturday and then leaving the following week.
ok Nasri played in similar circumstances last season but to be fair to him he wasn't the captain.

are we going to get a Van Persie column in the programme for example? the whole thing is ridiculous.
I have never been so annoyed before the start of a season ever.

After watching the game today, I thought that Giroud was who impressed me the most. His hold up and link play was very intelligent and he could (and should) have grabbed a couple himself.

Carzola was also very very good and he almost scored as well. I think that was it for me to see players getting into the box on the end of moves.

Overall - yeah - it was a second division club playing quite a few reserve players, but we created a lot of chances with new players. Feeling optimistic.

Still would like to keep RVP this season though. The thought of Chamakh coming on just frightens me.

very interesting game. watched it today only, and was very impressed with the 3 new signings. podolski not very influential but looks like he can score goals, cazorla just brilliant in the middle - i think he and arteta are going to be quite good in there, and giroud looks like a classic striker, good link-up, strong, quick, gets a shot when he has the chance.

i thought we played the old 4-2-3-1 in the first half but in the second was more like a 4-4-2 with arshavin behind the strikers, there were moments when you could easily spot the two banks of four when defending, am i wrong here? maybe we change our shape when not on the ball, but that's the impression i got. i'm interested to see what we'll do about that, i guess wenger will probably wait on van persie to see how we're going to play.

anyway, it's only preseason and against a 2nd tier team that just lost their best player, so let's see how we turn that into good performances in the league. at least this time we start the season with a good number of quality attacking players and reasonable defenders, even if with not much backup.

roll on 2012/2013 :barscarf:

We certainly do change our shape when we lose possession from loose to "legs akimbo".
We cunningly dont chase back and allow 4 on 3's to occur which only end if the other team score.
