A.P Must be in bits tonight.
Synchronised, Gloria Victis, Valiramix, Wichita lineman and now Darlan.
>sigh<
They were all exceptional racehorses imo.

Re: LAY OF THE DAY - BET OF THE DAY
I recall one afternoon at Cheltenham
A.P took a tumble and had his front teeth kicked out by a horse hoof and it's shoe.
He rode the next race on Black Jack Ketchum, and won of course.
When he went to the dentist to have the roots of the teeth pulled, he declined to have an anasthetic needle as he would have to miss a few days racing, in order to get it out of his system.
I feel for the bloke. Probably my all time sporting hero. Toughest bloke I have ever heard of. Broken almost every bone in his body - including his back, and most broken more than once.
I hope that he has a great Cheltenham and Aintree, but it won't make up for his loss.

A.P is a proper sportsman compared to some of these pre madonnas you see now of days. probably never truely got the recognition he deserves outside of the racing game. the thing that sets him apart for me is it dont matter if its a ride at plumpton or the festival you both the rides will get 10000% from the champ.Top Londoner wrote:I recall one afternoon at Cheltenham

I would never put Mccoy up on one of my horses, he hasn't got the handling or riding skills of a Ruby Walsh or Barry Geraghty. as shown above, he has end the careers of some right decent horses.

I like you rosie, so not gonna argue. We're all entitled to our opinions.
Just like to add that, Synchronised fell in the national. He got up uinjured, and galloped away, crashed through a rail and broke a leg. Put down.
Darlan stepped at the last hurdle today, and had done the exact same thing at Newbury, but got away with it previously. This time his novicey jumping, and at speed, cost him his life.
That said. The guy has been champion jockey for the past seventeen (?) years, and has not been stable jockey for the Champion tainer stable for perhaps the past 6-7 years now?
He does not have the ammunition of Ruby or Barry, but delivers day in and day out, be it a seller, novice chase or championship race.
Those three jockeys are of the very same ability imo, but A.P has done it consisetently for longer.

i am sure their has been instances when a stable jockey has been injured and owners have knocked mccoy back being on their horses due to his riding style. i am sure terry warner done it with rooster booster one time. everyone is entitled to their own opinion though. its just unfortunate that it has to happen

Re: LAY OF THE DAY - BET OF THE DAY
I have to agree with you rosie, that A.P does not ride with the same finesse and style as the other two jockeys, but I would suggest that his aggressive riding style does not put horses in danger either.
I recall a race at Stratford in 2006. His mount was made favourite, (Shingle Street @ 7/4). Had he not been on it then it would have not been fav. He had to urge and cajole for the whole two miles as he was out the back for most of the race.
It was his perseverence that got the horse to the lollipop first. That is what I really admire about him, his determination and never say die attitude. He is also a Gooner.
He has ridden some great races too, notably last years Gold Cup and, in his own words his greatest ride ever on Wichita Lineman.
He does look a bit industrial sometimes, but he is effective and I couldn't think for one moment that he would put the winning of a race before the safety of a horse.

Nice to see Seabass back on the track today, nice little spin in a race that was probably too short for him. I backed him for the National a couple of weeks ago.
