Emirates Cup 2013/Galatasary and Trouble at Overseas Games

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I don't hate PHW, I just view him as a complete figure of fun who invites derision.

As Hlebby said he was born into great wealth and I'd add to that that he sold his birth-right to the highest bidder and continues to happily preside over our continual decline whilst taking a healthy income from the club. Some 'Gooner'.

PHW has plenty of dosh, don't think club supports him (unlike Dein who's whole career is based on Arsenal)
HillWood's kids (and Edelman's for that matter) don't follow football.

Reason I consider PHW a Gooner is because he goes to plenty of games and has always been a supporter

He sold his inherited right to exercise any real degree of control over the club, some of it to a greedy American who clearly only had one vision (even PHW knew this - "we dont want his sort" :blah: :blah: ), yet happily still draws £67,000 a year from the club for doing fuck all of note.

The fact that he goes to games where he is presumably able to guzzle as much champagne and brandy and scoff as much food down his greedy neck as he can isn't decisive for me.

If he is an 'obvious gooner' that has 'plenty of dosh', why did he sell a big chunk of his shares to Dein, claiming it was money down the drain, then subsequently sold the rest to Kroenke? :rubchin:

Of course he goes to plenty of games when he gets to sit and dine in such comfort and at no expense to himself!! :banghead:  I wonder how many of the away matches he goes to - especially the less glamorous ones? :rubchin:

Really JD, you've made some controversial, provocative and even insightful statements on here, but to give PHW credit for turning up for home games and claiming he is a true supporter because his family owned the club is just plain stupid - especially given his actions stated above. Obvious gooner my arse!!

didn't know about the £67k (that's a rip-off)

but plenty of other 'fans', 'supporters', board members, owners and/or their kids don't attend games
surely it means something...

I actually pulled that from the club's latest accounts so it's not a Wenger/Diaby wage that suddenly goes up by 5% every time something goes wrong!

that's WAAAY too much for a boardroom figurehead
if we're paying that much of a chunk would far rather it went to somebody like Bob Wilson or Pat Rice
NorfBank is changing my mind a bit on this one...

Does that come with a £67k plus benefits remuneration package?

Or a package of an entirely different nature from HashKads?

Agree that Peter Hill-Wood is an Arsenal fan, even if his Chairmanship has been controversial.

Dein was in business before buying into Arsenal.

Since he has left us he was a main manager of England's World Cup bid.

I stand corrected - will be following the NooYoikHillWood
(thought I read PHW say that... must have got confused between him and Edelman)
according to David Conn's "the beautiful game" Dein's fruit business was going nowhere fast
he read the TV tealeaves well, leveraged up and bought in at a basement price

Just because Dein's business (started as a grocer's, moved to commodities I believe?) made a loss in some years, does not mean he had no life before Arsenal.
He was a wealthy man in his own right prior to buying the shares.
