Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Arsenal did not challenge for the Title this season at any time, the usual late surge was as predictable as it was late. Arsenal did not challenge for the Champions League this season the last 16 second leg "heroics" were as predictable as they were late.
We didn't get our glimpse of the future in the League Cup this season and thankfully we are back in the FA Cup Final. We lost the predictable game at Stoke , threw away a lead to lose at Swansea by having seven men ahead of the ball when we were winning away. We didn't score against Chelsea and lost at home to Manchester United. If we were to finish fourth four points behind the Champions then it is progress, if we finish second ten points behind the Champions then it isn't.
The great finish to our seasons always coincides with our February/March Champions League exit. It is predictable and not progress in my opinion.

Hard to believe those comments, leaves him and us open to ridicule. Straight from the Arsene Book of Fairytales.augie wrote:Who said that brainwashing doesnt work ?

Err what challenge would that be then ? Did I miss that happening cos I certainly dont remember it![]()

'There aren't many injuries in the squad, which is important. If we had an injury-free season, I think we could lift the title."
Based on what ? We play a good half season every season and he thinks that proves that we can win the title ? Injuries didnt make us lose at southampton or stoke or swansea, and it didnt make us drop points against hull (at home) or against leicester
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
it's nonsense from theo really.
It might be up there with Rodgers' 'we would have won the champions league had we not been knocked out'
But the injuries thing, of course it affects us. Chambers at stoke for example, the defence at sea. That is arsene's fault of course for letting injuries get out of hand and not having enough quality to cope.

On one hand it's from the Daily Fail.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
I don't think it's progress until a Wenger team can successfully compete in the CL. We are underperforming Monaco and Juventus.
This season I don't see any brilliant sides in the PL although Chelsea were always going to win it - if we don't finish 2nd, we have underachieved.
Wenger continues to make a world class signing here and there, but always leaves us a few key players short as he miscalcs on who he needs and who needs back up.
I have read this week that his current thinking is we don't need a DM signing as we now have Coquelin. I know he will disregard Henry's remarks about 4 key signings. He doesn't believe in world class keepers either. (he could, and should, have bought LLoris).

Happy to see some proper perspective has been restored here and folks are no longer being seen as morons for not lapping up the progress spiel.
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Mis-use of Co assets.
Debuchy injured shoulder out for X months.
Plays him 90+30 in a semi-final.[in the biggest stadia]
Now injured hamstring.
Another Arsenal player injured AFTER games.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
It looks shit but Bellerin was also carrying a knock and wasn't fit (so not even on the bench) - so who would you rather have played at right back?Blade wrote:Mis-use of Co assets.

On the subject of right backs - Dubuchy signed for 12 million, Chambers signed for 16 million and for me the best RB we have, Bellerin signed for nada.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
The question is this, of the current top 4 teams which manager would do nothing if his right back was consistently being taken to the cleaners by an Ecuadorian winger which eventually led to a winning goal.Supagoon wrote:it's nonsense from theo really.

Sorry, but that should not be forgotten, it was inexcusable.
Who can say it would not happen again?

Chambers was bought for 16m and was rated very highly, so throwing him in at right back or centre back wasnt a crisis/knee jerk reaction. The situation with chambers is really pissing me off tbh - this was a guy that had really impressed at the start of the season and looked to be a real quality player in the making, but now after a few poor performances he is being disregarded and labelled as not good enough

Fans have got to stop using injuries as an excuse for defeats - we didnt lose because of injuries, we lost cos our manager didnt bother buying enough back up players to cope with the injuries

Wally's comments are widely reported and totally idiotic; I know there's a 'party line' to toe but what the fuck was he thinking? Best team in Europe?

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Not sure any of the so called progress makes any difference.
When Wenger has choices, he'll go back to type and it'll be groundhog day all over again.
He's proved it season after season, with different groups of players, but managed to produce exactly the same mistakes.
Maybe with another manager it'll be better, maybe worse. But I think he's had his time and is now just feeding his own needs. Great to be in the FA Cup final again but even Wenger and the club are setting the agenda and the FA Cup is well below our level.
Must say that it's a great way to send the natives of happy in to the summer and in to their shiny new club shirts for the following season.
