Re: SUMMER TRANSFER THREAD
I'm sure the Higuain situation will be resolved before the end of the week and probably today/tomorrow.
Although saying that it's not like they're going to make him stay whoever was appointed and I highly doubt that Ancelotti is carrying out their fee negotiations. Maybe they've just learned their lessons from going over manager's heads before.
We easily have the potential to outbid Juve and at the prices suggested Higuain represents far better value than the average £12m signing we'll make if this deal doesn't happen.

Re: SUMMER TRANSFER THREAD
ps: Have we bought anyone yet - as in spending more than £16million ?
Re: SUMMER TRANSFER THREAD
Your talking like these players are signed to immediately go into the first eleven. The club is a lot bigger than just the first team squad. If anything, Arsenal are in a better position to sign these type of player than City or United. City hardly have a reputation for giving youth a chance - unless that young player costs £25M and comes with a champions league and world cup winners medals.augie wrote:rigsby wrote:What's wrong with that? Yes if we only sign 18 year olds this summer it'll be shit, but signing young players isn't a bad thing. The same people that moan about that are the same people that go mental when United etc pick up quality youth players when they develop into class players.
Because we have a lot of weak areas in the team and squad that need addressing.......is left back one of those positions ? I would have thought that the purchase of nacho allied to gibbs has pretty much nailed down our left back positions so why buy another ?Monreal and gibbs are young enough to have at least another 3 or 4 seasons in them so isn't buying an 18 year old left full a bit redundant then especially when the guy will cost a minimum of £2.5m ?
When you have a squad like citeeh or their red scum neighbours then you can afford to take a punt on the best young talent that comes available but we are nowhere near that position - as things stand we need to fulfil needs first and foremost and then, and only then, can we afford to take a punt on another unproven player.
Btw when or who was the last quality young player that manure picked up and turned into world class ?

Well did not have a clue how to spell his name so why not a nickname .OneBardGooner wrote:swimmer1 wrote:New managers are now in place at Real and PSG lets see if the Higgy transfer is for real .

Where the fcuk did you draw that from what I said ?

Fact is that when you are winning trophies, as manure are, then you are in a much better position to take a risk signing a young kid. The need for their signings to come in and make an immediate contribution is minimal to say the least. We, on the other hand, are country miles behind and have some serious ground to make up before we can win trophies again - if recent history has shown us anything it is that the top players, our top players, don't want signings for a few years down the line cos they want to win now and signing unproven 18 year olds will not help us bridge that gap anytime soon
Re: SUMMER TRANSFER THREAD
Wenger chose not to sign 18 year old Gareth Bale because we already had Clichy and Cole....augie wrote: of weak areas in the team and squad that need addressing.......is left back one of those positions ? And as I've never seen the lad play, I've no idea if he's shit hot, or even if Arsenal see Mendy as a left back! - he could end up as a holding midfielder, winger, or goalkeeper for that matter. He's 18, so who know's.
It's the blind leading the blind, so nothing I can really say on the transfer... in fact, it's probably a load of bollocks anyway.

Re: SUMMER TRANSFER THREAD
So Ancelotti is secured by Real Madrid, that is the latest obstacle removed, I expect to be revelling in the news Higuain is ours by the time I get home from work.

For your own sanity I hope you work on an oil rig in the north sea and aren't due home for a bit!foxinthebox2001 wrote:So Ancelotti is secured by Real Madrid, that is the latest obstacle removed, I expect to be revelling in the news Higuain is ours by the time I get home from work.
Re: SUMMER TRANSFER THREAD
Yeah, that's my point. There's no point losing your shit ove the possible signing of an 18 year old left back (Mendy) when we know nothing about him... like Bale, he might not actually turn out to be a left back! (thus making this comparison with Monreal/Gibbs null and void) or like Alba or Cashley, he might just be bloody brilliant!spike241 wrote:The same Gareth Bale who was absolutely shit at L/RB, wherever the fuck he played before?g88ner wrote:Wenger chose not to sign 18 year old Gareth Bale because we already had Clichy and Cole....augie wrote: of weak areas in the team and squad that need addressing.......is left back one of those positions ? And being tagged as a full back at 18 is hardly career defining... Maldini, Bale, Thuram, Petit, etc. have all been labelled that at some point in their careers, so why make a judgement on someone we know precious little about?
Who know's. To complain (and in Sid's case, bang your head) at the news that a teenage player we've never heard of has been linked to us is pointless - it could be a good signing for all we know. Hell, he could be a future great!*
*Yes, yes - he could also be shit

We're always going to be looking to unearth a gem (and I wouldn't want that to change) but the most important thing is that it's done alongside (and not instead of!) the recruitment of top class players ready to step into the first team.
Re: SUMMER TRANSFER THREAD
Again I know the papers are full of bullshit rumours this time of the year but in the past week or so several of them are suggesting that tevez will sign for ac milan for approx £10m.......would any of ye take a chance on signing him for us at that price ? I know that he has a mercenary reputation and that when you buy the guy that cheap then you will end up overpaying on the wages but jeez I have to say that I would sign him for us at that price. He would bring that big game attitude, would work his bollox off for the team and would love to be in a team where he is top dog again
