I have to admit that I'm really torn this transfer window.

On the one hand we desperately, desperately need a proper goal scoring centre forward. We've all said it for ages and even the haters like Shearer are saying it.

But I'm not sure whether Diet Pep and Edu can be trusted to spend the money properly. After all these two bumpkins wasted 65 million on Havertz.

And I don't think the fool in charge would setup the team properly to accommodate a proper CF anyway :banghead:

No way do I want him spending (wasting) even more money. He’s spent fortunes and we’re regressing to where we were 2-3 years ago.

He ought to be told that he’s had free licence to spend bundles on the players he wanted and that this is his team and is clearly the team he planned. So, get on with it and show us how the process we’ve funded has come together. Time to sink or swim Mikel old chap.

As you say, if he buys a striker, he won’t use him properly and the poor sod will be standing around watching our snail’s pace, sideways and backwards build up. Nothing’s gonna change. Let him crash and burn and hopefully he won’t last for years on end like the Old Fraud.

There's not a hope in hell of us making a big money signing in this window, we'll have to sell 2/3 players to stay in line with FFP,we're already short in numbers as it is.

Don't do it to yourselves, might as well start posting tumbleweed emoticons on this thread

No centre forward, no top 4 - it really is as simple as that.

99.9% of Arsenal fans of sane mind said it at the start of the season - this is a step up year that will see us play 50+ games of PL/CL and Nketiah and Jesus simply won't score the goals that are needed. Might be able to mask it for a season where Saka, Martinelli and Odegaard all hit their peak form at the same time (last year) but that's the exception and not the rule. Haaland won City the league last season, Aguero on many occasions before. Where they didn't have a proper CF, they broke 115 FFP rules and signed all of the best attacking midfielders in world football and we don't have that luxury. Barring that all the title winning teams have the 25+ goals man in their side - Salah, Van Persie, Drogba etc. Even lower down the difference between being utter shite and top 4 for the vermin has been Kane, supported by Son.

We are back to Wenger times - and this has got 2016 written all over it when Giroud went on that run of 13 games without a goal, whilst Vardy and Mahrez were banging them in week after week. All the fancy little technical players will be let down by the fact that we can't put the ball in the net regularly enough.

The only other position where a signing would be worthwhile is at full back. The entire PL has worked out that a long diagonal ball over Zinchenko's head reaps rewards, whilst White's ongoing attempts to play first choice right back are now being ruthlessly exposed too. Tomiyasu isn't the answer despite the mindblowing claims from some people to the contrary - he's a bag of nerves, can't tackle, pass or cross and if he becomes first choice, I give it a matter of weeks before this forum is lit up by people realising what a waste of space he is (new contract my fucking arse!)

CF and full back - any other positions, save your money

The thing is SteveO if he (Arteta ) cannot see what it is we "Need" and how very poor some players in the squad are and just not Prem Standard, then he certainly isn't going to listen not even if Push Come's To Shove. His arrogance just becomes more obvious with each passing game.

Exactly - and we all know that some of the players we are always linked with selling i.e Nketiah, are on the sort of dough that suitors like Palace, West Ham etc aren't prepared to match (quite rightly from their perspective). The best I can see will be some sort of loan option - fuck me, it really is like the Wenger days are back !

So much wastage under edu and diet pep in recent years, and now when we badly need a striker, this wastage is coming home to roost -

nketieh - big contract despite being nowhere near good enough
nelson - also got contract extension which was strange given that he got hardly any game time last season or this season
Lokongo - signed for €17m and binned after one season
Tavares - signed and also binned after one season
matt turner and alex runarsson - both binned after one season
trusty - binned after one season

Those signings alone reflect very badly on the club, and then when you factor in the chronic overpaying for the likes of the portugese pussy, kiwor, and havertz (and I'll still say for the job he does we overpaid for rice), and you have to wonder who the fcuk is sanctioning these deals  If I thought that the lack of a quality striker would see the end of el basque then I would happily sacrifice buying one this month, but sadly I think he is safe as houses so I want us to buy a quality striker but suspect that we wont

And the 4-year contract 75G a week Southampton reserve Cedric Soares.

I mentioned vieira (portugese pussy) and Havertz so I didnt miss them out - zinchenko and white (I am a fan of neither) and to a lesser degree jesus, I left out because not every deal a club does is going to be a Bergkamp or PV4 etc - some players you buy are going to be squad players/complimentary players rather than key players, and when you buy players from citeeh then you gonna expect to be buying a premium for them regardless of what we think of them. White, in my opinion, is the level of a squad player for any club challenging for trophies, or a key player for the smaller clubs - we paid too much for him imo and it is a mistake we are continuing still if this new contract rumour is true

🚨 NEW: Arsenal will target a left-back in the January transfer window, with a loan deal likely ahead of moves for three primary targets in midfield and attack in the summer

ok Augie...appreciate the reply

As for zinchenko he cant defend...thats a big problem for a guy playing left back
White...well gets buy defending just about but not impressed...adds nothing going forward....always looking for short sideways pass or if not available the inevitable back pass...shows no great desire or effort in his play....contrast him with Pat Rice or Lee dixon both of them had guts and gave everything, in Pat Rices case was really an average player technically but gave 100% every game, that made him special

Havertz... well not sure what he does to be honest.....drifts around looking uninterested.... gangly and awkward looking on the ball...for £65 million would be expecting just a little bit more than that...maybe not the likes of the great Dennis Bergkamp...but someone at least who looks like a player
Can also add Nekitah to above...who really should not get games in our first team

Truth is in big games these players will be exposed...and will not make a title winning side

Marquinos might be on his way back from loan

https://www.msn.com/en-ie/sports/footba ... 64bc&ei=94

Personally I would like to see him back IF the basque c.unt is willing to give him game time - we have too many games to be playing saka all the time even if saka was in form, but now that he is so badly out of form it makes sense to leave him out for a few games and try something different
