Ska Legend - Huge influence on groups like The Specials and Madness ( who took their name from.one of his songs and also dedicated a song to him "The Prince")
Wasn't a fan of his tbh (I never liked much of the original ska, just the 2 Tone revival and the third wave - and I hate reggae), but sorry to hear of his death as his influence on the ska music I love was massive. Without him there would have been no Specials, or at least a very different Specials.

I think he was still performing live into his late 60's / early 70's too. 8)

RIP.
Gangsters by the specials is basically his Al Capone song reworked, Madness is his originally redone by "Madness"

T tone stuff is a bit faster, with better backing sounds etc but the original ska still stands up well.
Saw Toots ( from Toots & Maytals) Wednesday night still going strong at 73 !
It just wasn't my thing I suppose. I have very eclectic taste in music, ranging from the classical masters to metal, punk to folk, ska to grunge, even some NWA-era rap and some pop stuff ( ) but I'm a bit picky too. I love old punk and 2 Tone ska for example, but I hate pop-punk and love ska punk (3rd wave) stuff!

I don't tend to just love or hate entire genres, I tend to like some songs or bands within most genres. I do hate 99.9% of everything country & western and reggae I've ever heard though. I also don't like DJ's - getting paid to play records of other people's music is fucked in the head. Learn to play an instrument you cĂșnts!!

Sad News Indeed

I know we've all got to go sometime but it is still bad news especially when it is those who have played a (good) part in our lives - especially musicians, sports people, actors, writers etc...
