As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
So here we find ourselves halfway through the transfer window and as yet nothing has happened.
to be fair didnt Arteta say after the Fulham match that we were not going to buy anyone this month ?
dont think there is any money left after paying £65 million on Havertz - oh and paying him £330,000 a week
Was reading an article a few mins ago on the players we have out on loan at the mo - can you believe that a lot of them are barely getting any game time ?? We are sending academy players to non league clubs and they cant get starts so what does it say for the quality of players we are producing now ? The strikers that we have sent out on loan and that are getting game time seemingly couldnt score in a brothel, and the keepers we sent out on loan (4 or 5 believe it or not ) are only back ups in small clubs and one went to a non league club where he played 8 games before they sent him back and brought in a different keeper
It seems that only 4 or 5 are doing well with their loan clubs
One of the problems of the loan system is the difference between need and requirement.
The need is for a young player to get playing time at a higher level than youth football and the requirement is for the club to make up the numbers of their playing squad.
Occasionally they get a fair amount of time on the pitch but too often are treated as a shirt filler should the first team experienced players not be available.and this is where it doesn't work.
Some of my first experiences of going to The Arsenal was to watch football combination games where the fringe players got to play against adults from other clubs and first teamers coming back from injury or old heads with all their tricks at the end of their careers.
Those games gave them the experience that sitting on the bench doesn't , It meant that they learned under the gaze of their own coaches and their development was in house.
We saw the way that Gnabry was ruined by Pulis , there will have been many more , over the years we have all heard the names of the next best thing coming through but often they go away for a loan and disappear into the lower leagues or out of the game altogether.
Only so many will make it to the top but I don't believe that loaning is the best way to get them there , they need regular playing time against older wiser players that have been through the mill . A reserve league gave it to them but football club's finances chose to save money and disband it.

And within a couple of hours of me posting about the failures of our loan system, this little bombshell falls into my lap
I dont know anything about the guy, but he was one of the loan successes I referred to earlier (going by game time and goals and assists), and fcuk me the club have now recalled him to send him on loan to a different club - what happens if they send him to a higher club but he doesnt get much playing time ?? What is the objective here ? My thinking is that you send the kids out to get game time playing against physical, older and more experienced players, so where is the benefit of them sitting on the bench or stands ?

Quite righty Augie, playing time should be the primary concern for the player and parent club.
He has done pretty well at Motherwell by all accounts - maybe Sheffield Wednesday are willing to stump up a loan fee ?
£1m or whatever to have him to potentially keep them up ?
Worth it from their perspective if he does enough to keep them up, he gets to play Championship football for the second half of the season and AFC get some £.
Only time will tell if it meets these criteria, if he is sat on the bench doing nothing then it would be far better all round for him to play at Motherwell.
Saudi Club representatives are in London and have asked permission to speak to a number of London based players
Arsenal's Thomas Partey is high on their list

If Partey is sold (IF) then it must mean that we are in the market to buy
Another midfielder to replace Partey ?
Or will that money go elsewhere ….. ?
It wouldnt surprise if he did sell partey - it would allow him to justify not buying a striker AGAIN
I know that rodders (and a few others) are totally up for selling partey, and I agree his injury record is shocking, but fcuk me if onana from everton is the answer, then I dont know what the question is He is no better than average imo, but el basque has a long history of signing average/shit players for AFC Personally I have had enough of his shit signings so if he isnt bringing in a serious upgrade on partey, then I would block partey's sale (unless he is going to be doing porridge in the near future).
