Too much attention being paid to us beating a piss poor Villa team, the realists among us will not easily forget the Swansea & Sunderland home games which came in what AW describes as a 'good run of form'. Feet on the ground time.Steve_I wrote:Still a load of nonsense being spouted I see. Lol. Beyond laughable now. Lol

The one serious point he has not raised is about our recent 'big' signings.
Both Ozil and Alexis chose us because of CL football, but for how long will they accept going out in the first knock out round?
Not as long as us fans I would suggest.
BBC on Build up to cup Final was nearly all about Villa, commentary also very pro Villa.
One good feature about Alexis that was it.
Wenger has really put himself in a position to nearly challenge for the title, just know he will fuck up by not buying the right players, probably settle for internal solutions, and a few youngsters.....really hope I'm wrong on this one
I watched it on BBC1 and thought the commentary was very even, if anything they were waxing lyrical about Arsenal for most of the game and slating villa, they didn't even make a meal of the 2 penalty claims (one was outside the box but the bellarin (sp) pull was stone wall).
I wasn't pissed mind so that might have made it seem very even on both sides

under a different manager the current squad probably only would need fine tuning.Ikechukwu1 wrote:Totally agree with you. We know there'll be no title challenge next year if being brutally honest. For years now he has left us with gaps in the team, transfer market after transfer market, always seeking to do things on the cheap or internally so as to massage his own ego. (Yes that's an opinion but an informed one.)
As others have said i have no confidence in him putting together a league title winning team ever again, however we are stuck with him for the next 2 seasons at least and therefore i find myself hoping that maybe just maybe he will learn from his mistakes and have a good transfer market, getting rid of a lot of deadwood and making some good buys not necessarily spectacular where we need them.
It just worries me that already hints are coming out of the club that this summers dealings will be done in such a way as to not upset the balance of the squad or in other words, not upset the bank balance too much![]()
The expectation management already begun at the club with Ivan, then AW bringing out the "fine tuning only required" line. I just don't understand how a team so far off the PL and CL - for so long - could only need "fine tuning"?
however we are stuck with Wenger for another 2 years so expect 3rd/4th place finishes as usual.
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
The squad is large but we need quality signings that's the truth. The priority for me is:
1. Striker.
2. Goal Keeper.
3. Defensive Midfield.
Three positions is not major surgery but for the striker position there are a lot of buyers not many sellers. Strikers are sadly thin on the ground.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
I enjoyed Saturday and always will any time we win a trophy, but can you at least attempt to judge things objectively. We reached the final by beating Hull(Relegated), Brighton(Championship), Middleborough(Championship), Man united(thread laughing at them says enough), Reading(Championship) and won the final by beating 4th from bottom Villa. Does winning against this level of opposition suddenly mean Wenger has proved everyone wrong? I have judged Wenger over the last 10 years on whether we challenge for the title, I don't expect us to win, but to not have put in a meaningful challenge in that time is disgraceful. I think our performances in the CL have also been awful with 5 last 16 defeats in a row. If Wenger showed some signs that he was adapting or changing after the mistakes he has continuously mad every season, then I would be happy to see him in charge, but I know that this time next season we will be nowhere near the eventual winners of the title, and will be top 4 again at best.Steve_I wrote:Still a load of nonsense being spouted I see. Genuinely think a new striker isn't coming! Since Theo scoring against Villa and a hat-trick in a testimonial v WBA, the big noise is that he will be the "internal solution" for the new seasonSupagoon wrote:The squad is large but we need quality signings that's the truth. The priority for me is:

I also think that since the ridiculous hype about Coquelin (heard plenty of Goiners compare him to Matic!), and with Arteta staying an extra year, every chance a new DCM won't be night. At least not a top one. Think may get an average al from France maybe?
I do think a new keeper will come though. Also have weird feeling another small technical player like Pedro (available for just £8m apparently) will arrive. It'd be classic Wenger!

I also think a top class striker is what we lack the most.
tbh though for what we actually need you are looking to have to spend £60 M +
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Yes Wenger did make all the right decisions at Wembley and it was up there with the best cup final displays I have ever seen from an English team. Shows what can happen when we play with purpose, tempo and a more mobile striker than Giroud.
However I have seen a bit too much praise heaped upon Wenger for getting it right. I don't want to sound ungracious but isn't ''getting it right'' a key part his job? Isn't that why he is paid a massive £8.5m every year?
Sometimes it is hard to believe Wenger is actually meant to be a top class manager with over 30 years experience. The praise he can get over the most basic decision making is at times ridiculous for a man in his position and on that kind of salary. Surely it cannot be wrong when paying someone such an exceptional amount of money to expect something exceptional in return? When was the last time Wenger did anything that was exceptional?
I still cannot wait for the day when we get a proper manager and get this manipulative, unconventional idealist out of the club for good. Then we'll see what we saw on Saturday on a far more regular basis which will almost certainly lead to bigger and better things

Anyone got anything new to say about Wenger?
