If by trimming and polishing you mean he should learn to do the basics of his position, ie track a man all the way into the box and make sure he is the right side of the ball when the opposition break on us, then yeah, that boy has a hell of a future.
Would also add learning not to just lunge blindly into so many "tackles" giving away needless silly fouls.
But he's young enough to learn.
Is he though?
The two bits I highlighted should already be strong parts of his game if he considers himself to be a defensive midfielder. I mean Song has been at it for years and he still struggles badly at both those things.
I would go as far to say that Wilshere has more defensive awareness than the pair of them combined.

Agreed on the two bits you highlighted. He should have that pretty much boxed off by now. It's a tad worrying that he hasn't.
But I mean he is young enough to learn not to be so impetuous in the challenge - most likely the result of being overkeen to impress. Experience can calm that down.

That and some good advice from a manager who is able to encourage the best potential out of..............oh wait no, yep, that's Frimpong's development stalled for the next few years.
A mixed performance last night, but vitally important above all else to close out the points. A draw would have been a major, major set back in what should theoretically be the easiest of the six games on paper.
Like most observers, I'm still alarmed at how easy it is to carve us open at times. Perhaps it's just because you analyse your own team more than everyone else, but is there another leading European club that leave themselves so wide open. At times, wide players seem to be able to run 30 yards unchallenged before a narrow escape or last ditch save or tackle get us out of trouble. I've never, ever been comfortable with the formation we have currently against better sides and on the left hand side of the field we will get caught out time and time again. We've had Clichy, Gibbs and Santos all try it out there but the fact is that they could be the best left backs in the world, but if your cover is Arshavin or Rosicky, and a team are genuinely chasing a game against you, then you're going to get exposed. It seems such an obvious long running fault but one we are unprepared to iron out.
On the plusses, I thought Mertesacker gave his most composed and commanding performance in the shirt so far and thank god for the signing of Arteta. I'm still over the moon having signed the guy and I think I can count on one hand the number of times he has given the ball away in all the matches combined so far. He always seems to be calm and unruffled and is just what we needed. The Ox showed in 45 minutes why he should go on and outperform Walcott consistently.
One last moan - did we farm out the right guy on loan - Chamakh vs Bendtner ??

Bendtner is not good enough for us at that level BUT he is better than Chamakh is at the moment (and the last 6 months too).
One of Bendtner's few strengths for me is bringing him on as a sub to cause havoc amongst tired oppo defenders. It can open up opportunities. But bringing Chamakh on at any stage (starter / sub / whatever) is much like letting out a fart in a sandstorm. Little or no impact.
The goal was to some to some extent Ox fault. He is great going forward, but dare i say it, he is a bit like Arshavin.
It maybe because he is playing in the wrong position but his tracking back is a bit lacking.
Frimpong got potential but needs a leader,
Aaron Ramsey seems to be gaining confidence by the game.
Wasn't a great game, but a win is a win.
At least we are winning when we play shit and shit teams.
