Youuuu look like a farmer!flash gunner wrote:Really enjoyed the game today.. Thought we looked good but again shakey defensively but on the whole we controlled it i thought.
Yet again RVP and Vermaelen were top quality. Song and Mertesacker were shit but on the whole good day out and a good win
Met a few lads off of here and had a laugh all in all a good day out

Well another win, and at the start of a run of four games where we could put some serious pressure on the Murderers and the Chavs, and a typical game where we have dropped points before
I thought the first 20 minutes had all the hallmarks of the Blackburn game - at times it was almost too easy. Norwich were paying us far too much respect and their fullbacks in particular seemed happy to let Walcott and Gervinho have clear 20-30 yard runs on the ball before thinking about a tackle.
...and then one direct ball, frankly awful defending by Mertesacker and the situation suddenly looked totally different.
But in fairness I thought we carried on dictating the play from start to finish and although all the lazy pundits were going on about "credit to Norwich" the reality is that if Gervinho had half of RVP's finishing instincts we would have won comfortably - the tame header and the one-on-one with Ruddy showed me why top strikers are worth £30m and 'OK' ones are worth £10m
TV5 immense from start to finish, and only a world class RvP stopped him taking the MoM honours.
Arteta probably had his worst game in the shirt so far, but I really like the guy and if he has one poor game in every ten whilst covering for Song's irresponsibility at times, I can live with it.
The statement of the bleeding obvious though is the RvP situation. I thought in 2005-06 we had moved towards being a one-man attacking team with TH14, but we're pretty close now. Theo played well yesterday, and Gervinho I thought was OK.....but that extra clinical touch in scoring positions is missing. We desperately need another striker in January....I would say more than any other position on the field right now. Without RvP yesterday could easily have been one of the 1-0 defeats with umpteen missed chances and 60%+ possession.
More than any position on the field Wenger needs to realise that £6m-£10m is only going to get you so far when it comes to goalscorers. For every Chicarito that succeeds at that price there are countless others that don't

Love him

I agree with much what you say, but gervinho isn't a striker, he has never been so. He is a winger, a winger like many other wingers who are not particularly good finishers.SteveO 35 wrote:

Chamakh and Park are our strikers behind RVP, and neither are the quality needed at a club like Arsenal. (I accept Park may still have a role to play but we never see him play).
We need have needed a striker since Eduardo left, Wenger must spend the money to get one. All our great attacking play is a waste unless you have a striker like RVP who can finish chances. But you cannot have a chasm of ability between 1st and 2nd strikers like we do.
