Bradford match thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

considering that literally no team has ever conceded a goal from man to man i agree
So, by that, I presume you think it works? We've conceded more goals from set-pieces than ANY other team in the prem!! You work it out!

we would concede more playing man to man. it's not the system, it's the lack of discipline from the people implimenting it.
man to man you have to react to attacking movement, if you have defenders who are slow to react or are prone to lose concentration(ie our whole team), man to man is suicide.
if you impliment zonal, then at the very least you know your players will be starting in the position you (as coach) feel they'll have the best chance to defend the set piece.
if they STILL get sucked out of position (sagna for bradford's goal) there's not a lot you can do.

if you have a defence and midfield full of switched on, intelligent players that can anticipate movement and react in an instant, man to man would work.

my main problem is people blindly and boringly parroting what pundits say without actually thinking it through
I would say it's easier to tell a thick defender to stay with his man and just mark him than react to the delivery of a set-piece. It's not working and something has to change!!

What we need to realise is this is not a level playing field. Bradford were recently in administration which means they were able to effectively write off the majority of their debts. Financially that isn't fair, how are we supposed to compete with that? Even if we lose I am claiming a moral victory against these cheats. Financial fair play please!

We'll still win this by a few goals but we are truly fcuking woeful

Yet again the traveling support show how in tune with modern day AFC they are by singing about a manager that is 5 years past his sell by date and singing songs about a 50 year old former striker  :banghead: :banghead:

Gervinho would you please please please fcuk off back to Ivory Coast - I will even arrange for the Togolese team coach to pick you up at the airport if you like

How about u go man to man and if ur man scores u get docked 1/2 ur wages - simples

cos then our few remaining decent players would all immediately demand a transfer! (other than that, decent idea.. although what if someone else's man got free and won the ball, you rushed over to cover and they squared it for your man to score? who loses wages then? :P )

edit: to goonertux: then you'd have to rely on them all picking a player they can realistically win an aerial duel with, and again staying with them.
a thick player gets told "stand here, defend this square of pitch"
