new arsenal anthem thinktank thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

stansmith, so glad you have faith. Bet your one of those fans that slag off a player all match then he scores in the last minute and you tell everyone how much you have always rated him.

Can you imagine how silly it is to sing about 'bubbles' or 'delilah'? When a crowd sings a song together it can really take off no matter how silly it seems at first. The songs mentioned sung by thousands have the potential to be immense, there are songs with great words that will sound poor, but some songs 'singin/rainbow' which would sound great. This is all about finding the song that will sound the best, that will send a chill down the spine when people hear it.

Most of the suggestions will work, impossible dream is obviously a front runner but bridge/singing/rainbow are not far behind and others are contenders too. Embrace this, it may not work but we have to give it everything at this stage.

What a class song

Wise men say
only fools rush in
cause i can't help
falling in love with you

Take my hand
Take my whole life too
cause i can't help
falling in love with you

The Arsenal (clap,clap,clap)

Is a good song and great anthem, only problem is like you say it's used already, although not alot of people know that.

'Good old Arsenal' is a classic - other fans associate it with us - it dates from a time when terrace culture had not long taken off - its simple and easy to sing - the tune is 'Rule Brittania' - very appropriate (half the team are French & we play in the emirates but its still our home) - we still sing it now but it never lasts because most people dont know more than the chorus - it just needs adapting for the modern era - I think we should sing the club, manager and captain - like this;

GOOD OLD ARSENAL, WERE PROUD TO SAY THAT NAME - WHILE WE SING THIS SONG WELL WIN THE GAME

'ARSENE WENGER', WERE PROUD TO SAY THAT NAME - WHILE WE SING THIS SONG WELL WIN THE GAME

THIERRY HENRY, WERE PROUD TO SAY THAT NAME - WHILE WE SING THIS SONG WELL WIN THE GAME

There was me thinking ‘Fools Rush In’ had died a death. In addition to N22’s post, these are the full lyrics to the song:

Wise Men say
only fools rush in
but I cant help
falling in love with you

Shall I stay
would it be a sin
if I can't help falling in love with you...

Like a river flows, surely to the sea
Darlin’ so it goes, some things are meant to be..
Take my hand, take my whole life too
for I can't help fallin’ in love with you...

Like a river flows, surely to the sea
Darlin’ so it goes, some things are meant to be..

Take my hand take my whole life too for I cant help
falling in love with you.

Although, I agree that it may well need to be shortened for regular terrace singing, with some kind of “Arsenalâ€

Good Old Arsenal is repetitive. A good chant perhaps but not a spine-tingling anthem.

I am struggling with this Fools Rush In nonsense. It has nothing to do with Arsenal. It has nothing to do with football. It has nothing to do with chasing a dream, team spirit, fighting the fight, etc, etc. It hasn't got history, it isn't even naff enough to be so naff that it's good. It's just cr@p.

It's a feckin' love song. It doesn't transpose to supporting a football team at all. I wouldn't be surprised if it's all a plan by Swansea fans. They'll adopt a really naff and pointless song, sing it with passion and hope that some stupid English fans without an 'anthem' of their own will adopt it. Then they abandon the song and p### themselves laughing.

What next, 'The Power of Love' by Jennifer Rush. Heck, the lyrics are probably better than that Elvis rubbish.....

'Cause I am your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can

Lost is how I'm feeling lying in your arms
When the world outside's too
Much to take
That all ends when I'm with you

Even though there may be times
It seems I'm far away
Never wonder where I am
'Cause I am always by your side

'Cause I am your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can

We're heading for something
Somewhere I've never been
Sometimes I am frightened
But I'm ready to learn
Of the power of love

The sound of your heart beating
Made it clear
Suddenly the feeling that I can't go on
Is light years away

'Cause I am your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can

We're heading for something
Somewhere I've never been
Sometimes I am frightened
But I'm ready to learn
Of the power of love

Ya see.............Fools Rush In is just rubbish and can't even stand up against a Jennifer Rush song.

Hey............howabout that Skooch number...............gotta be better than Fools Rush In.

Wow, strong words. Maybe "no, I don't think 'Fools Rush In' is a good idea," would have got the point across. Still, never mind.

Firstly, yes, it has nothing to do with the team. Can you please tell me what ‘You'll Never Walk Alone’ has to do with Liverpool Football Club, or what ‘Bubbles’ has to do with West Ham? Also, what does ‘Impossible Dream’/’Bridge Over Troubled Water’/etc have to do with Arsenal, short of "oh yeah, that's about chasing a dream, and that's what we're doing - genius!" I mean, after all, singing a song expressing our love for this Club is just "nonsense" right? Sigh.

‘Impossible Dream’ is a fantastic song, but we would have sent the visiting fans to sleep by the time we reach the crescendo. ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ - I've said my piece on that. ‘Rainbow’ - I like it, but I can see why it would be conceived as a bit girly.

Two of the most infuriating arguments that I hear against suggested anthems are these: 1) They have nothing to do with the Club and 2) other teams will piss themselves (because it is naff). Firstly, if I read the suggestions from the Ed correctly, the 'anthem' is meant to have nothing to do with the club. Secondly, please tell me how well perceived Bubbles would be if it were started now? Unfortunately, I fear that nothing will stop posters here, who are that way inclined, leaving such messages. C'est la vie

But really, I find dismissing ‘Fools Rush In’ as “nonsenseâ€

we should do something with 'London Calling' - check out this link if you havent seen it - I cant watch it enough times

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5sGJKLnTRc

I think we should adapt the lyrics - its got the 'not girly' 'spine chill' factor if you ask me. Failing that - the national anthem with Her Maj' as a gooner is growing on me

Love London Calling as a song but it's not an anthem, just a song that we should hear more regularly at the ground.
