Did you say the same after the charity shield victory last year ?LaughingGooner wrote:Tactically, Wenger was spot on yesterday.
He's finally learnt from his mistakes of the past.
As a team we defended well and on the counter, we could have scored a couple more.
We're going to have a good start to the season on that showing.
Just need to ensure we don't fuck up come March/April.
But we're certainly improving as a team and a squad.

Yes looked a bit more resolute at the back, BUT this tactic of bringing on Arteta and Gibbs with 10-15 mins to go, something he does a lot is extremely dangerous and will cost us points. Charlton last season springs to mind, hands the initiative to the other side saying come on the score we are just defending

WENGER OUT
He was just so far ahead of the curve when he came. Nutrition and fitness methods (got a few extra years out of our defenders) and scouting were just on a different level. Although United's success stemmed from their Class of 92 youth players, their success has always depended on ruthlessly poaching domestic rivals' best players - Cantona, Cole and Sheringham being examples from earlyish PL years. To be honest they've done the same since then - Ferdinand, Berbatov, Rooney etc. So for Wenger to come in and pay small fees to sign class players like Petit, Vieira and Overmars and turn them into a winning side was groundbreaking.strongboy wrote:Wenger is pure genius for what he did in 1997/98 alone - forget the invincibles.
Agreed he was far ahead of the curve. What amazed me even more was how he turned Adams and Bould from typical British stoppers into defenders who passed the ball out from the back. THe full backs too - and these were grown men around 30 years old who Graham had drilled the defensive game in to - and he didn't just extend their careers but turned them into Beckenbauers - well I exaggerate but the fourth goal Bouldie setup for Adams against Everton was better than Beckenbauer.northbank123 wrote:
