Very good young g88ner, but you can understand my frustrations, especially when it involves Wenger the dithering old knob cheese!!

'Gonzalo Higuain is now closer to Arsenal': Gunners hope to sign Argentine striker in next 8 days after Carlo Ancelotti confirmed as Real Madrid manager

Arsenal hope to finally sign Gonzalo Higuain before the start of pre-season training following the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

The Gunners are confident they will sign the Argentina international for a club record fee - said to be £22m - before July 4, according to reports.

Higuain's brother claims the Gunners are set to clinch his signature, he told Italian website Tuttomercatoweb.com: "If Tevez joins Juve, is Higuain closer to Arsenal? I think so.

"Juventus is a great club, but Gonzalo is too expensive for them.

"Napoli are a strong team. Having said that, I cannot deny that Gonzalo is now close to Arsenal."

The developments yesterday will finally see Higuain depart the Bernabeu with Ancelotti expected to sanction the move to Arsenal.

Arsenal have agreed personal terms and a transfer fee in principle but the move has been delayed until Ancelotti's appointment following the departure of Jose Mourinho.

Ancelotti joins the Spanish giants on a three-year contract with former France manager Laurent Blanc replacing the Italian at PSG on a two-year deal.

The appointments are set to spark a number of moves which have been held up by the managerial uncertainty at both clubs.

Juventus have seemingly let Arsenal win the race for Higuain after agreeing the £10m signing of Carlos Tevez from Manchester City.

Manchester City agreed the sale of Carlos Tevez to Juventus for £10m – at least a third of the fee they paid for him – though with personal terms yet to be agreed they face an anxious wait as the Premier League outfit seek to offload his £200,000-a-week wages.

Arsenal are prepared to pay a record-breaking transfer fee and make Higuain the club's best paid player to ensure they capture their first major summer transfer target.

He is expected to command wages of £125,000-a-week - taking him above current highest earners Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski.

Arsenal's previous record transfer fee was the £15m paid to Zenit St Petersburg for Andrey Arshavin in 2009.

Higuain has scored 107 La Liga goals for Real Madrid in six and a half seasons with only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo scoring more than him in that period.

Reports suggest Ancelotti will complete his first signing this week with the capture of former Manchester City target Isco. The 21-year-old Malaga midfielder is set for a £25m move to Real Madrid.

This deal is dead. I bet Wenger is penny pinching and pissing off Real who will soon sell him to Juventus.

From BBC website today

LATEST GOSSIP

Arsenal's Swiss defender Johan Djourou is joining Hamburg on a season-long loan, with the Bundesliga side also obtaining an option to buy the 26-year-old.

Hamburg's director of sport Oliver Kreuzer tells Hamburg's Morgenpost newspaper: "I am sure it will happen."

Djourou, 26, impressed earlier this year during a six-month loan spell at Hanover 96, making 14 Bundesliga appearances.

I can't post a link as this article appears on their scrolling "Breaking News" page.

Fecking typical Arsenal piece of business.

Sign a shit player;
Put him on a long, lucrative contract;
Finally realise he's shit;
Try and fail to sell him;
Loan him out cos nobody else will pay him £60grand a week;
Tie up millions of pounds that could be used for decent players.

I despair of Wenger-nomics I really do!! The man's an arse . . . . . :banghead:

I agree augie. I thought a few seasons ago, fo a period, he was excellent. Just couldn't quite step it up to a consistant level. A shame as for a time he looked like he could be a real player.

I had high hopes for Djourou. Thought he would be the next Kolo Toure (2004 era) but never lived up to his potential.

I agree with you up to a point mate but his good games have been in a very small minority. More often than not he looks way out of his depth and he's nowhere near good enough to get us back to the days of silverware.

Where I get pissed off is that Djourou is just one of a long list of "hopefuls" signed by Wenger, put onto a long lucrative contract and then their development just stalls. What is going on at Arsenal when so many promising players drop off like this??

Either 1) the manager's judgement is flawed from day one or 2) the culture at Arsenal is one of complacency and no longer one where winning trophies is valued.

Isco deal going through makes it pretty obvious that, as ever, we must be dragging our heels over transfer fee.

You never know, may have been basically tied up for a few days and just a case of confirmation but I don't think it's irrational to get worried about someone coming in and hijacking the deal.

Manure have had a bid (rumoured to be approx. £10m) for baines turned down by everton - cant help but wonder if moyes plans on buying baines first knowing that fellaini has a set price so everton wouldn't be able to reject that deal even if baines was already gone but if fellaini left first I doubt if all the gold in fort knox would buy baines

£10m bid for baines is an insult though
