Apparently so.
Even if you agree that no world class striker was available, it doesn't explain why we found nobody to improve the squad.
- We're a Sanchez injury away from playing a centre midfielder on the left wing (I said this 2 weeks ago and Baba laughed at me )
- We're a strained Coq away from having Arteta (hardly fit or in form for 2 years) or Flamini in midfield.
- Chambers was a walking disaster against Liverpool - he needs to be loaned out and played regularly to gain confidence and experience as the odd cameo won't do him any good.
The summer has been a disaster. Wenger has let the club down.
Giroud does not have the stamina to go through the 2 games a week phase that's soon to be upon us, on top of the debate of if he is actually a good enough player, he needed help which neither Wally or Welbeck can supply.
The other Coq problem is his abrasive style, undoubtedly a very tough player, but the way he goes about it turns him into a card magnet, particularly in European games where anything just a fraction late gets punished.

There were plenty of players who were available this year - Kondogbia, Vidal, Schneiderlin - they all went. I am sure that there are others as well. Many strikers were sold as well - so this World Class bollocks that we are in for is just another mantra that they can repeat to sound like they have an opinion. I swear, it's like they are drugged or something.
If anything, this year suggested that waiting so long into the window means that you pay higher and higher prices, so Wenger never had any intention of buying.
But doesn't that make sense ? Buying late suggests desperation. Buying late leaves the selling club less/no time to get replacements. Buying late means less available players. All of these contribute to higher prices and you would think that any c.unt with economics qualifications should know that
The idea of having to watch Giroud lumber about like a fucking oaf and Walcott flitter on the periphery of games for the next 9 months makes me want to pour scalding wax onto my eyes and my brain.

Don't worry mate - Welwide will be back from injury sometime around Easter to score a couple of flat track bully goals

I'll never forget that CL hat trick he got - it was sublime. Henry would have been proud

Normally, I think that would be the case, but it really depends on the status of the contract as well. Only in recent years have top players been sold in the past year of their contract for big money. It really worked that way this year because of the rest of Europe already having their transfer window closed. But, yeah - Wenger should know this already.

Still, wasn't anyone good available so feck knows who that lot bought!!
That must be the continuation of the 'unsustainable bubble' that football lives in that we first read about when the recession bit back in 2009. Six years later and with FFP confirmed as the dead duck any of us with half a brain cell knew when it was first touted, and we're still lagging behind, hoping that our Chief Economist will one day be proved right and that Roman Abramovich and Sheikh Mansoor's combined millions will run out
‘I bought (Alexis) Sanchez, I bought (Mesut) Ozil, I bought Cech, I bought Gabriel last year.
‘The problem at the moment is finding the players who guarantee you are a better team after, and that example last night shows you very well.’
Wenger was referring to the £36m Manchester United spent to sign France youngster Anthony Martial on Tuesday night
What right does tight fisted Wenger have to comment on what other clubs are doing in the transfer market??? I hope this Martial kid bangs in a hat trick against us.
And as for the players he mentions above, that's 4 players in three years. And he fails to mention the dregs he brought in the 5 years prior to that...Bendtner, Sanogo, that bloke with the dodgy back (Kallstrom???). Doesn't even mention Wellbek with the above either. Probably forgotten we still have him.
I find it staggering that he still has so much support.
I'd be interested to see the continuation of that graphic to see how far down it we are, not sure how many teams there are in European football but i'd bet in terms of even top 2 leagues per country we'd be very near the end

You got it folks - that's the only two extremes available i.e. do fuck all, or blow €50m+ on a young unproven player. Clearly that's the strategy that each and every one of the other top five league clubs in Europe did.
Honestly, the guy is insulting everyone's intelligence now. How about the 18 other PL teams who did manage to sign players at more reasonable prices to improve their squads? How about the £16m or so that would have secured Wanyama, who beyond any show of doubt would have been an upgrade on all of our CDMs. How about the £11.5m for Van Dijk to provide a better level of cover than Chambers. £16m for Welbeck who offers no upgrade whatsoever was fine last year though?
