SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

You never know, may have been basically tied up for a few days and just a case of confirmation but I don't think it's irrational to get worried about someone coming in and hijacking the deal.
this is it.

juve sign tevez, our expert negotiators see our only widely reported compeition for higuain are out of the race, so they then try to lowball madrid, this will drag on and on until someone willing to pay the the extra couple of million quid comes in for him. same old same old, read alonso, mata etc etc. this club is and will remain rotten.
You have no evidence whatsoever to go on for your conclusion. Give us a link, source, anything... any sort of information to back up this claim if you will? For all we know, we might already have this in the bag. I could go the other extreme and say the only thing remaining is for him to get through his medical. Do I have any evidence for this claim? No, but neither do you. Signing players is not like going to the supermarket and buying stuff. It takes time. £20m odd is being exchanged hands here, and we're not a club who can just throw money around.

Baseless negativity, very annoying.

Tbf 1989, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, all we can go on is previous history and we certainly have a history of dithering when it comes to player recruitment.
I agree mate but in this particular case there is very little to suggest we're dithering. All reports indicate that the deal is pretty much done, with only a few technicalities left to hammer out. When his dad and brother are telling you he's close to joining, you gotta believe them.

Fucking hell, you're one of the most negative bastards on here all season and then after miraculously finding some faith you're getting on your high horse chastising others for negativity?

I seem to remember the family of one Robin van Judas saying how he would not join another Premier league club.......

I'm not saying it won't happen, just I'll believe it when its completed. :D :barscarf:

I think the advent of agents has made transfers much more complicated and drawn out.

Once a club would want a player, go to his club, make an offer and before you know it we've got Peter Marinello.

Now, when any club makes an enquiry they not only have to negotiate with the other club but with a plethora of agents, lawyers and family members. This, in itself, slows the process down, but now, as soon as an agent realises someone is interested in his player, he starts to tout him round every other club and I'm sure that any player that interests a big club is then considered by every other big club (e.g. Manure may not feel they need Cavani, Lewendovski etc but they don't want him going to Citeh).

Additionally, given AW's reputation for finding 'gems' (TH14, PV4 etc), I'm sure that any enquiry we make for a 14 year old, Congolese RB, playing for Calais reserves would be investigated by very other club. (If only one of them had beaten us to Gervinho).

baseless negativity based on the past expereince of the last umpteen years. unlike u i dont beleive every half baked source of team talk or the unreliable print media as my basis for signings and cream my pannts on the back of said BS reports as im not a a, naive or b, 12 years old.

my opinion is based on whats happened in the past with the examples i quoted, and the fact that our transfers always drag on and on.

Have to say I am worried at this stage..worried that we will have another "we were close to signing him " or "we were never in for him" quote from Arsene on September 1st.

Yes but he won't make the "we were close to signing him" statement if he goes to another club and is ordinary, however if he goes to man shitty, scores 43 goals that include the winner for the cl final and pl winning goal in the last second of the season then you can bet your bottom dollar he will remind us how close we came

Mata is the reference point we all look at in situations like this - by all accounts mata was a done deal a few years ago (even more so than higuain is now) and yet we never closed the deal :(

French giants Marseille will meet with Gervinho’s representatives next week as reports claim the Arsenal forward is closing in on a season-long loan move to the Stade Vélodrome.

The 26-year-old has failed to establish himself as a key first team player since his move from Lille back in 2011, with many fans venting their frustrations at the Ivorian’s inconsistency last season."

inconsistency!? :rubchin:

Yes, AND/Also for Arsenal - since the board in their limited wisdom got rid of David Dein....

He'd have had the Higuan deal done and dusted by now..as well as Fellaini, Baines and a Goalie and...and ...and ..and well anyone else we needed  :banghead:

ps: WHAT!? Gervinho is only 14yrs of age and was a fullback...feck no wonder he doesn't know how to score!
