ARSENAL are monitoring France Under-21 international striker Emmanuel Riviere to see if he is capable of following in the footsteps of childhood idol Thierry Henry.
Riviere is one of the most highly-rated young players in France after saving St Etienne from relegation with eight goals in just 19 starts last season.
The 20-year-old forward, who was born on the Caribbean island of Martinique, homeland of Henry's mother, has one year left on his contract and is desperate to join the Gunners.
"Arsenal would really be the jewel in the crown for me," said Riviere. "They play a fast-moving, attacking style of football, and they're always shooting on goal.
"It's fantastic.
"I respect Thierry Henry for who he is, he has always inspired me."
Arsenal face competition from Lyon, Marseille and Juventus for the £5million-rated youngster.

The dramatic move by City will leave the Republic of Ireland keeper fuming and disappoint the three clubs chasing him.
Given, 34, is desperate for first-team football and Celtic were keen to take him on a loan deal immediately, leading the hunt ahead of Fulham and Arsenal.
But the SPL giants will have to wait until the next window for Given, whose exit is being blocked by Brian Marwood, the City wheeeler-dealer who insists he cannot move anywhere.
Friends of the Irishman say he will ‘explode’ at the news and cause City the kind of major headaches they suffered from Craig Bellamy and Stephen Ireland.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon is desperate to get Given on board and the Parkhead club know the former Newcastle star is interested in a move.
Given is a Celtic fan, played for the club as a kid and has a Glasgow-born wife.
