Another impressive performance in Europe but unfortunately to win this competition we will have to face English opposition along the way and that is when the wheels will fall off

Well, I'm bloody satisfied.

We won 5-2 away at a ground where no-one has won at all in 3 years.

Our attacking football was out of this world. Yet another stunning attacking performance this season.

Add this to Newcastle, Blackburn, Bolton, Porto, Twente and Everton 2nd half and our forward play this year looks as good as ever. What this confirms is that our play is as good as last year - a year to the day we beat Prague 7-0.

Walcott, Diaby, Fabregas, Ramsey, Nasri all outstanding. Clichy and Eboue proving what good full-backs they are.

Ade was shite again. I'm sorry to say, but he was. Not as bad as Sat but not far off.

However, I don't know how far we've come defensively. This was appalling, one of the worst.

But overall, delighted with 8 goals and two wins after the international break.

Huge, huge 10 days coming up. If we can get 9 points from West Ham, Spurs and Stoke then I reckon we will be in good shape for the visit of the Champions.

For now, delighted tho.

One of the worst defensive performances from us I've ever seen..but we won 5-2. Its amazing, Djorou needs to start the next game if toure/gallas r injured (maybe even if they are)

Ramsey- fantastic to see a player at Arsenal not frightened to have a crack at every oportunity

strange game. We destroyed them going forward but conceded two soft goals and could easily have conceded 3 more... :? happy with the win in a tough away game. 8)

Almunia was beaten 4 times, his positioning for shots and his bravery were very good but still, beaten four times so should we be too happy? If his defence is disorganised for a freekick, shouldn't the keeper take some blame? If he is rounded due to be stranded on the edge of his box and needing Eboue to clear off the line twice, shouldn't he take some blame? If he is lobbed after dashing out, should questions be asked?

He did fairly well but still, beaten four times and questions to be asked.

Edit: Good win for us, we played some good stuff for 49 minutes, good to see Diaby play so well and Ade score. Defence worrying in the centre but hopefully Djorour was on bench due to fitness more then actual long term of Arsene. Questions over Theo and his inability to stay onside half the game  Good to see Ade scoring but Arsene should have made changes earlier to inject life into the team

Ah Com'on Magic!
You can't seriously blame Almunia for last night.

Okay fine Almunia is the eyes for the defence and should be constantly talking to the back four. However, he can't tell them excately where to stand.

Last night it looked like we resulted Fenebache to clipping balls over the top for Guiza to run onto and also playing for offside. Most were over run and Guiza was lucky on serveral occasions simply to get a touch on the ball, let alone control it.

However, the makeshift paring of silvestre and Song played slighly to high and flat and make serveral mistakes.
You can't fualt Almunia for the 1st. If your defence leaves two unmaked players at the back of a freekick to get the shot in. Also it was a needless foul from Song in the first place for the freekick.

for the second Almunia HAS to come out to narrow the angle and/or collect the through ball. Had he stayed Guiza would have been given time to control the ball in the area.

Personally Djourou should have started instead of Song. :banghead:

Game-over, Well done and a fantastic result. Lets look at the positives and move on to our next. :barscarf:

One thing i cant stand is when a player is offside from a Goal Kick. And i think we all know who was guilty of that last night.

If ade could cut that out of his game he might be able to convice me that he is good enough. But when the defending was as poor as it was last night, you can't keep getting caught out. It's not as if he's upagaisnt a tight unit like the old aresenal back four.

Other than that i am happy with the result, although it could easily of been 5-2 to them, so i'm not getting carried away.

Volkan was beaten 5 times, i rate the guy but the poor bastard hardly put a foot wrong all night.

the guy between the sticks is only as good as the 2 in front of him. the fact that almunia had to come right to the edge of his box on several occasions shows just how poor our defence played against the long balls to guiza. if strikers like guiza and torres and ronaldo are allowed such freedom in behind then we are, for lack of a better word: FUCKED

For such a tall guy he is quick. Which amazes me why he feels he needs an advantage which constantly makes him at least yard off-side.

His awarness is poor and where it lets him down.

He could easily stand 5 yards back and give himself a running start and be able to beat a defender in a chase!! :banghead:  :banghead:

Can I just say from the off that I only caught about 40-45 minutes of the game last night (last 20 mins in each half) due to work so I am obviously not in great position to judge performance. However from what I did see average al seemed to do well sweeping up behind an absolutely shocking defence - can anybody tell me if there is still some fans out there who claim that centre half is song's position ?? I have said it before and will say it again that the man is not good enough and it seems to me that when he plays midfield and does bad the fans say that he is a centre half but when he plays centre half and does bad it is because he is a midfielder - every hear the saying jack of all trades but master of fcuking none cos that is song my friends in that he can "do a job" (copyright gus  ) in a few positions but is not good enough to start in any  Again it seems to be that song is another one of those players wenger has a blind spot with (see greedybollox, gallas and almunia  ) and I would nearly stake my life on him holding his place for the shammers and the scum unless gallas and/or kolo is back :banghead:

Cannot understand the point in playing cesc for the whole game last night :? Last season wenger burned him out, often of playing him through necessity but not always, and he is on course to do the same this season.

Forget the score defensively we were fucking awful.Anyone who thinks we will get away with a performance like that against anyone decent is living in cloud cuckoo land.
Song and Sivestre brought back memories of Swiss Phil. Why doesnt Wenger trust Djourou?
I am not Almunia"s biggest fan but he was our best player and without him we may have lost

Not Almunia's fault arguments

Goal 1: Why can't he spot that at the back post, it is a 2-1 situation? No he can't do anything about what happens afterwards or that the freekick was given away, he can organise the marking so everyone is picked up. He didn't.

Goal 2: Maybe he shouldn't rush out to a ball he isn't going to get?

Offside goal: Fair enough

Eboue to the rescue: Maybe he should be aware of where he is and not need to avoid using his hands on the edge of the box so allowing the ball to run free? Thankfully Arsenal got players back.

Volkan didn't do well but nobody is saying he played well. Yes the centreback pairing in front of him, mostly Song, deserve more blame then Almunia but doesn't mean Almunia played well.

How slow is Song, i personally thought he was lucky to get away with a nother bodycheck on Carlos.

I like so many others was blown away by our attacking play, midfield were great going forward.

However, it is clear to see that our defence, or lack of it, could well cost us dear. That Adamsesque centre half that we are crying out for could lift us to new heights. With no ball winner in front of our defence we invite wave after wave of attacks and always look like letting in a goal, or six!

Diaby was a lot like Vieira BUT he just can't defend. The defending midfield tough tackler and a good centre back must be two positions we address in January if we are to win sonething this season.

But I still remain upbeat about last night :barscarf:

Wenger said he'd like to see more of him (Diaby) playing behing the striker, as long as it means Denilson is kept out and we have two forwards on the field, it could be interesting. We need a centre Half ASAP agreed
