N7 Gooner - yes he is unproven in the prem. He was not injured when we signed him. I wager that Vermaelen plays before Aquilani. This is also a guy who played as many games as Diaby last year.

You mention Liverpool happy because they challenged for the league. As the red nosed one said this was their best year in 20 and they still failed. We challenged two years ago and last year was out of it by the end of October. Like the Scousers were the year before that. Who knows who the new season will bring.

On utd they are missing two big reasons for them winning those titles. The biggest reason for them winning them those titles has gone. This will result in a change of play and a change of system. Who knows how this will work in the league, as much as who knows how our new system will?

My point was regarding being negative after a pre season game. If you were a Chelsea fan would you be negative after the Reading draw or do you see Reading at the same level as Valencia, or do pre season games suddenly not count when it comes to other teams.

Our average run was still the best in the prem, and the United semi final the gap was exaggerated by mistakes (one by a home grown youngster no one wants to see them learn I guess)

Between 98 and 02 how many trophies did we win? We finished second but the gap in 01 was huge, yet the next season we did the double!

Between 79 and 86 how many trophies did we win?

IT WAS LITTERED WITH DRAWS AGAINST MEDIOCRE SIDES !

EVEN WHEN WE HAD OUR RUN WE WERE STILL THE 4TH BEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE OVER THOSE GAMES

But you failed to answer how you have optimism when we have weakend our squad and not addressed our main problems.

But when you challenge and only sell 1 player and replace him you have the same team as you had last year (refering to liverpool) you can have optimism.

Man u have replaced their players and they both looked good during pre season. Aginst Valencia the person reporting on Sky Sports News said that Valencia (the player) had a very good game and was man of the match oh and they won that 2-0.

Chelsea fans will be happy with their wins over inter and Ac milan and the fact that they have not lost any player and added a few to the squad.

I always thought the team who won the league had the most points per game over the season :? :? :?

And where does anybody say we should not let young english players play?

what does the point of how many thropies we won between 79 and 86 have anything to do with what is happening now.

Having read all this I'm glad I couldn't find the stream, though still feel depressed about losing to Valencia, of all teams. It does sound so far like a re-run of last season - only really decent performances in the E Cup and some high scores against amateur sides.

The only reason I can see for Wenger not to use the £40m to plug some of the obvious gaps must be those difficult-to-sell Highbury flats - ring-fenced or otherwise.

Arsenal TV does seem to have just vanished, so I couldn't even watch TH14 et al to pretend all of this isn't happening. I know my Setanta direct debit has stopped but thought AFC could have at least warned us...lots of :banghead: to come, I think

We were poor last night, Mr W needs to stop being so stubborn and admit the fan that called Silvestre a geriactric may have had a point.

Surely you didn't think they'd find time to do that amongst all the important things to report on such as a day in the life of Armand Traore, Arsenal's top 50 groundsmen - your vote counts etc etc

it's been mentioned here before Wenger is an intelligent man and i believe that the board are blowing smoke up our ass and wenger is going along with it.

there is only a tiny money there rather than the 40mil and what decend DM or CB are you going to get for £2.50

How far do rosetinters want Arsenal to drop before they see that Wenger must go?
The man is a liability and is slowly dragging this club down.

I'll give him a season, if we fail to get a dm then either we weren't targetting them (in which case Wenger should go) or we failed to get one despite several bids like last year (in which case our new Director has a lot of explaining to do).

Our preseason isn't as bad as Liverpool's has been but that tells us nothing about them or us. If we lose 2-0 to Everton and play rubbish, then I'll start being more concerned
