Napoli away

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I seriously wonder why a lot of posters bother supporting the club when they can't ever ever ever find a positive.

BTW I thought Kos was outstanding.
Kos looked a class above, cool and calm all night, whatever you think about Wenger he got it right with kos!

If you go 1 down in a game that you cant afford to lose (if you want to top the group), why would you take off an attacking midfielder (rosicky) and bring in a left back (monreal) ? :? Forget about whether it should have been wally/Rambo or whoever cos the bigger picture was that he went defensive after we went behind

Question 2. Why after going behind would you allow the stupid prick in goals to start walking the ball out to the back corner of the penalty area in a bid to waste time ?? Was the stupid c*nt even aware that we were losing ? He didn't just do it once either and it had me screaming at the telly to get the ball forward   :cussing: :cussing:
The way Gibbs was trying to timewaste in the corner as well even at 1-0 indicates that the players were fully aware that we just needed to avoid losing by more than 2 goals and going through was the priority. Monreal wasn't a bad substitution because at least he provides some energy but not bringing Walcott off the bench was shocking, anyone could tell we needed some pace.

You bastards, if we'd finished top our annual trip to Olympiakos could still have been a possibility!
Not really. This team has a real backbone.
I agree. We saw that tonight of course and last month at the Manc scum.

Bring on Barcelona or Bayern, big games, big atmosphere.
Some of the comments are classic on here.

I'd rather be Marseille - err in the Europa league - really I mean REALLY?
Wenger is a dinosaur - who is manager of a team 5 points clear at the top of the table!

If you lot can't see the performances (in general) have been better than last year, you obviously don't go much.

There is the same crowd of 10 people on here that disappear when the good results come in, but are first on when the shit hits the fan.

Get a grip and get some balance, otherwise you will lose the more even minded fans from this site that haven't left already. But maybe that is what you prefer - if so good luck!
No I said I'd rather be Marseille and completely out of it, because Groundhog day is boring now.

That second half disorganized performance was exactly the same as last year/the one before that/before that/before that......ad nauseum.

Most would say I'm pretty even minded, maybe I've just lost patience in us throwing away good opportunities as we have been doing for 7yrs now.

Been a long hard fucking year mate and watching The Arsenal blow a great chance at winning the group, read his post and snapped I guess, no harm meant, just letting off steam, for what it's worth he seems ok, well I can't understand most of his posts but what I do seems ok

I still believe he was being condescending though

I'd say from about 10pm Monday 23rd December, it'll be well on its way to being a done deal

My reaction to a result like that wouldn't be to go straight on another team's forum, however friendly I was with them, to celebrate/gloat/whatever but there you go, each to their own

Well at least we can concentrate on the league,Because after tonights clueless tactical shambles of a performance we are out whoever we get

Same old story every season in the CL draw a decent team in the knockout stage and its goodnight.Wenger is tactically inept in Europe and will never win the CL

I have no problem with anyone digging out the team after a crap performance.

It's just the here we go again attitude that isn't justified given our current circumstances.

If asked at the start of the season would you be happy with our current position in the league and qualifying for the next round of the CL, everyone would say yes.

Would you rather not be in the CL cos we don't have much chance of winning it? No, I'll take my chances with the other 12 teams that have little chance thank you.

Football doesn't work like that, otherwise you would only have fans at City, United and Chelsea games.

Let's enjoy the ride and see where it take us eh?

We lost the battle but won the war.

Napoli had to win, we didn't.

If we went all out attack and conceded goals on the break people who have criticised the team for not shutting up shop.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't!!

The results have been far better this season, but does any of that matter, if we finish 3rd or 4th, get knocked out of the Cl, and ultimately win nothing again. I hope your willing to defend your point of view, if we get stuffed on Saturday.

Swifty wrote: Very well put! I too find it hard to fathom why so many negatives when our team is into the next round, leading the league by 5 and have Spurs in the cup to come. I wonder what exactly the moaners were expecting from the team if this isn't good enough.

Because life, not just in football, is about taking the chances when they come along cos they are not gonna come around every 5 minutes - we had a glorious chance to finish top of the group and we blew it. We had a glorious chance of being 7pts clear at the top of the table last sunday and blew it. People like you (and I mean no disrespect) can come on here and be satisfied what your lot but don't you think that you should want more and expect more when it is on a plate there for you ?
Its a matter of perspective - i take the alternate view - we beat Napoli, we beat Dortmund away, we beat Liverpool, we beat Spurs - we are leading, we are alive in the CL. As far as Im concerned that means we are doing what we need to do. Seems to me a lot of people would need us to go undefeated (and probably not even with draws) to be satisfied.
As for CL - many think we can't win it - ok, if that's the case then isn't it better to get knocked out early so we dont waste effort and reduce our chances for the league? On the counter side - if we are actually in it to win it then we have to beat the best so really, unless we can topple a Barca or Bayern (and btw we beat last seasons finalist) then why bother so who cares if we came second in the group. I would also add that the Napoli game wasn't on a plate nor was Everton - who, like it or not, are an entirely different side under Martinez and have had excellent results (they've lost 1 game - and to City - and rolled United and Chelsea and drew with us, Spurs and Liverpool). Im going with glass half full and i accept others do the reverse - just think some set them self up for dissapointment.
