As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
I think if we are lucky we will now finish top 4. I just think this lack of a striker is catastrophic , The PSV away game was a freak score. We are 8 pts ahead of 5th but have Newcastle , Chelsea and Liverpool still to come. Somehow we have to beat Chelsea.
Well we're not doing too badly. The chasing pack is slipping up as much as we are apart from the barcode_*word censored* and we owe them one when they come to the Emirates anyway.
The fact that we are still second with 6 games to go and in the semi's of the CL after a season of the injuries we have had and the shit summer transfer window.......I think it is pretty amazing to be honest.
The problem now that it's "the top 5" nobody gives a fuck whether it's 2nd, 5th or anywhere in between. The "prize" is the same
Chelsea are 6th and Villa 7th so realistically the only teams with any chance of denying us top 5
Chelsea have still got the Mickeys, Newcastle and Forest in those last 5 games, so the chance of them overhauling us is slim and they may also take down one or two of the other top 5 in that run. Villa only have 4 games left to catch 10 points and with us playing Southampton last game, that won't happen either
2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th - how exciting
......said no-one ever
It will be 2nd or 3rd and then just depends on what players come in over the Summer. As others have said, it really doesn’t matter. Another CM and top drawer striker and maybe we can push on. Interesting couple of months to get deals done.
The lower you finish the worse your earnings are the next season from the TV pool. So coming 2nd versus 5th would cost us a fair wedge.
We have 14 points out of 27 over the last 9 games. Shameful form. And I can bet you we will drop potentially another 6 against the Toon and Scousers. Basically a complete collapse.
Just becoming more and more Wenger like with every passing week
We grew used to this in the league. The borefest of working out which of the minor CL places we'd take and insipid performances at this stage of the season played out in front of a disappearing crowd. It was interesting to hear pundits talking about that yesterday i.e. crowd apathy. I got offered tickets to last night's game from three different mates where as in the past 2 seasons that just didn't happen. Most people have had enough of this season and its literally all about PSG now.
I gave up on Wenger when the 08/09 team collapsed. I felt after '06 he deserved the chance to build a new team on the back of the invincibles break up and there were some really promising signs. The team signed some exciting young talents and were playing exciting football at times. They just lacked 1 or 2 ingredients - the Vieira replacement and a proper CB rock of a leader - to be champions. His stubbornness preventing him signing those replacements, albeit his supporters blamed the lack of funds, and then the team broke up and he tried to be 'mini Spain' playing soft as shit tiki-taka rubbish that saw us regularly bullied and go 9 years without a trophy before eventually stumbling over the line to beat Hull City in a cup final
My awareness has been heightened by that period and so should the board's, as it feels to me like Arteta is at Wenger's 09 point right here and now. If he chooses, he can go get Gyokeres, Zubamendi, a decent back up keeper, Sane (or equivalent), and a CB who isn't always injured and have us challenging. Or he can choose the never ending vanity project of being 2 or 3 players short and signing shitty two bob c.unts on loan as we did back then.
If its the latter then I'll be back where I was then - hating everything to do with the club and the manager. We'll see but this feels very familiar and last night's crowd was like old times sake
