"Arsenal’s move for Wayne Rooney could be hijacked by rich rivals

The Gunners have talked big over the summer about being able to compete to land football’s biggest names – and have backed that up by offering £20m for United star Rooney.

With £19m also on the table for Real Madrid ace Higuain, boss Arsene Wenger had been hoping to capture two new strikers before the squad returns for pre-season training next week.

But Rooney and Higuain are now both being tracked by some of Europe’s biggest clubs and Arsenal are concerned they won’t be able to outbid their rivals, or come close to matching the wage deals on offer elsewhere.

Argentina ace Higuain had seemed destined for the Emirates a fortnight ago.

But that deal has stalled amid interest from Juventus and London rivals Tottenham. And they now know that if they are to complete an audacious bid for Rooney, they are going to have to shatter their wage structure to compete with other clubs’ packages.

Chelsea retain a strong interest in the unsettled United ace and Roman Abramovich has made it clear to new boss Jose Mourinho he would back him with hard cash for big-name signings.

With Monaco and Paris St-Germain also in the market, all three can stretch their budgets to land England hitman Rooney.

“Argentina ace Higuain had seemed destined for the Emirates a fortnight ago”

That would again leave Arsenal looking at the second tier of transfer targets at a time when they are desperately trying to retain their status at the top table of the European game.

I see we are linked with Lars Bender today, just a few days after the Gay Gooners marching at Pride over the weekend.

The Rooney thing is ridiculous if it’s even remotely true. If he wanted to move for football reasons then I’d honestly see Arsenal being on his list. If he wants money then PSG, Monaco, Chelsea are on another planet to us and It’s not even close.

Juventus have got Llorente, Tevez and Vučinić – the Higuain thing is dead with them. I hate seeing these “links” dragged up again just to fill space.

I don't think citeeh can be ignored when it comes to clubs interested in higuain - for starters they will def need to recruit 2 strikers having offloaded tevez and ballotelli this year but also pellegrini is well versed in the Spanish game, will be well aware of what higuain would bring to his team.

Arsenal FC and their transfer dealings are a joke! :banghead:

We can't complete a signing quickly unless it's for some kid we are paying an extortionate sum for and a number of other signings Wenger has made are so shite they are sent out on loan until their contracts are up with us paying most of their extortionate wages, sanctioned by Wenger, until they leave on a free. This is the 'business model' they want to employ?
Not a chance of success with the fools in charge of our team/club.

News from Twitter -

Per is getting a new shirt number and strong indications that Cesc is coming back.

Higuain deal not stalled, he's on holiday, deal to be concluded sometime this week or next.

German media reporting that Arsenal have had a €21m bid rejected for Lars Bender.

Arsenal are reported to have lodged a £19.7million bid for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender but his current employers have no intention of parting with the Germany international, telling Sky Sports News:
He is not for sale at any price. It’s absolutely normal that there has been interest in him because he is a top-level player who is improving. But he has a contract until 2017 and he is absolutely happy to stay at Leverkusen.

You know this will be perfect when neither of them sign. "Look, we tried to spend big! See..." :banghead:

We've made plenty of mistakes, no doubt about it. To talk like somehow we're the only team that does is fucking mental. Look at the players City & Chelsea have been through over the last few years, squad fulls of the bastards. The only difference is that they can afford to make mistakes - we can't.
