Recent? Thats 12 seasons ago mate. Of course Wenger gets the credit for the unbeaten season. Just like how he gets the credit for failing 17 times in the CL. What is so difficult for you and g88ner to understand about that? :?

Btw, whats with calling people deadman? :? g88ner doesnt seem too bothered by it though. But use a "patronising eye roll" and you're in diffs..........
Erm, I'm going to have a wild guess that it's something to do with your avatar

So you will be saying Wenger is great manager if we win the league??

In my opinion so far Wenger has been culpable of many serious mistakes many of which has repeated, too many to catalogue

Anyone with an ounce of tactics can set up a team to give them a difficult game...West Ham....Sheff Wed ...etc

If we managed to win an very average Premiership it would be in spite of Wenger NOT because of him

Oh come on, give it a rest mate. You know full well that's not my view so stop calling me out as being a retard for views I don't hold. Either read my previous posts properly or leave me out of it as I don't appreciate being trolled.

My reply to Ichy a few posts ago would be a good place to start.

Again, why call me out on this if not trolling? I've never heard anyone call people deadman before.

To the best of my knowledge you've never brought this "deadman" nonsense to my attention before so it's never crossed my mind. However now you mention it, I've just gone back to see what the hell you're talking about and I agree, it's fucking weird to call random people deadman.

Redarmy, what's the story mate? - that term means nothing to me :?

Remember the Brian Clough story when he was not seen all week at the training ground

Then he turned up before the game on Saturday and gave his 30 minute team talk, after hearing it the players would run through brick walls for him

Then you have Roy Hodgson pocketing 5 million a year for what???

Totally uninspiring Character, team relatively picks itself, and then gets found out totally at any major competition

It would be an interesting discussion to have if we were to win the PL (unlikely as it is) this season, would it be because of AW or in spite of him?

But then it is not as simple as that in all honesty there are 19 other teams to take into account in the league and if they are playing worse or less consistently than us what exactly does that mean for our manager's ability or lack of and incidentally our players too :rubchin:

What I can say is that in spite of the recent Cup wins he is no longer the manager he was 10 years ago and seems to be unable to consistently bring in high class players to push the squad on. He also seems for whatever reason to be unable to get consistently high level performances from the team yet still seems to be adored by a large portion of the fanbase.

Frustrating as it is it wont change so personally i ignore the competitions these days and take each match in isolation and i've found it is doing wonders for my love of the team i've followed nearly 40 years, I can be down on a poor performance, celebrate a good one and be sanguine about one such as todays :barscarf:

Because of or in spite of doesnt really come into it for me. Wenger is the manager and gets credit for winning. But there are some who seem to have difficulty in also giving him credit for not winning, coming up with all manner of excuses for his failures.

I can see your point Armchair but surely a further renewal of AW's contract might hinge on where the team ends up over the next 2 seasons.

If we were to win the league purely because other teams were poor as opposed to us being very good i'd certainly be concerned over where that might leave us. The last 10 seasons have proven time and again that AW does things his own way and a PL win would most definitely confirm, in his own mind at least, that his way of doing things is justified and i'm not sure that would be good for the supporters.

Just think if we had strengthened the team in the summer with maybe Wanyama and another striker, would we now be well clear of the chasing pack?

This is all very true. Just like when we won the FA Cup in 2014, Wenger announced he was staying on the back of that win.
But that was not the question. The question was who gets the credit for Arsenals victories? And as manager Wenger does. Just like how he should have taken the flak and been sacked many, many times for umpteen different capitulations, crazy decisions etc.

Problem I have is Wenger gets the credit but doesnt seem to be accountable for all of his failures spanning a decade. Theres always an excuse, a get out of jail card.
