THE PROJOE TOTALLY POINTLESS TRANSFER RUMOUR THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

AC Milan are set to sign Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a season-long loan from Barcelona, the Italian club has announced.

Milan have agreed a provisional fee of €24m (£19.7m) to sign the 28-year-old outright next summer and the player has agreed terms on a four-year deal.

"We have agreed a deal for a season's loan and then the right to buy," Milan said in a statement.

"He will undergo a medical on Monday and sign a four-year contract."

Ibrahimovic is thought to have a £216m buy-out clause in his contract but Barcelona have agreed to sell him for substantially less than the €66m (£54m) he was valued at when he joined from Inter Milan a year ago in a swap deal involving Samuel Eto'o, who moved in the opposite direction.

Despite scoring 21 goals in 41 games for Barca last season, Ibrahimovic largely failed to show the form that saw him named Serie A footballer of the year in his last two seasons at Inter.

He will now return to Italy to play for Inter's arch rivals, following days of negotiations between Barca and AC Milan representatives.

Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani said on Thursday that talks were "very complex, difficult and very expensive".

Ibrahimovic played the first 45 minutes of a friendly between Barcelona and Milan at the Nou Camp on Wednesday, which the Catalonian side won 3-1 on penalties.

Afterwards the former Ajax and Juventus man conceded his relationship with Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola was strained.

"I haven't spoken to Guardiola for six months," Ibrahimovic told Sky Italia.

"I do not know the reason for this but there are certainly problems.

"As for Milan, for now, I do not know anything about a possible move, so I will remain a Barcelona player but I would like to play alongside a player such as Ronaldinho."

When asked about Ibrahimovic's comments, Guardiola said: "We have no problem of communication.

"For the good of the club it's best not to say anything. There's always a reason but I'm not going to explain it now. I'm very communicative.

"When it's the right time I'll give my opinion."

Argghhh... why do you keep saying that??!!!!! :banghead:

You keep saying we had the chance to sign Given when he left Newcastle, as if it's a fact!!!!

He signed for Man City for God sake! you know, the team with so much money that no one else can compete???

Why do you think we could have outbid them? - I just don't get your logic :? they would have blown us out the water on both wages and transfer fee if they wanted Given enough. It would have turned into a bidding war, and I very much doubt the Arabs would have shit themselves at that prospect - surely you accept that much, at least? :?

We don't know that we ever had a realistic chance of signing Given back then, so it's probably reached a point that you should let it go and move on!

donaldo, I'm all for having a go at Wenger if it's justified, but it seems you're moaning at him for not taking on the worlds richest club in a bidding war over a player - bit unfair that, isn't it?

Wenger could have signed Given from Newcastle a long time before he went to Man City
