keeper coming in? why oh why doesn't Given push for a loan to us? i'd be happy with that
That would be perfect but will Citeh loan Given to their rivals?Cant see it happening. Our big mistake was not signing Given when we had the chance when he left Newcastle. But Arsene Knows :banghead:
Argghhh... why do you keep saying that??!!!!! :banghead:

You keep saying we had the chance to sign Given when he left Newcastle, as if it's a fact!!!!

He signed for Man City for God sake! you know, the team with so much money that no one else can compete???

Why do you think we could have outbid them? - I just don't get your logic :? they would have blown us out the water on both wages and transfer fee if they wanted Given enough. It would have turned into a bidding war, and I very much doubt the Arabs would have shit themselves at that prospect - surely you accept that much, at least? :?

We don't know that we ever had a realistic chance of signing Given back then, so it's probably reached a point that you should let it go and move on!

donaldo, I'm all for having a go at Wenger if it's justified, but it seems you're moaning at him for not taking on the worlds richest club in a bidding war over a player - bit unfair that, isn't it?
Wenger could have signed Given from Newcastle a long time before he went to Man City
When exactly? :?

I just cannot understand how some people can be so sure we could have signed him. After all, how can you know Newcastle would have sold him to us?? - they were a club who, for a long time, were under the delusion that they were a big club, and always appeared to be trying to build a team.... and as Given was a key player in that, I'm not convinced he was ever made available for transfer by Newcastle.

In fact, when he did finally leave Newcastle, for Citeh, wasn't that after he'd finally handed in a transfer request???

Don't get me wrong, if there's evidence that Newcastle offered him to us, or any Premier League club, before he left for Citeh, then ok - but is that the way it happened? or are people just making up the fact he could have signed for Arsenal and Wenger chose not to sign him?? :?

Seems like fiction that has been talked about for so long that it's now seen as fact!!

quality as usual, g88ner 8)

there's only one point i'd like to add: not signing given is probably not a mistake since we probably couldn't anyway, but it does not justify why we have signed NO KEEPER AT ALL in the last three seasons.

2 quick questions -

1. Did I read somewhere that this transfer window is closing at 5pm tomorrow evening as opposed to midnight ? Personally I fcuking hope so as sitting and waiting in vain for wenger to pull his finger out and buy some quality for the xtra 7 hours is more than I can take right now

2. Given our absolute dearth of defensive midfielders at the mo would signing paul scharner on a free make sense to anybody else ? I know that he is another freebie and will add fuel to those of us who argue that wenger is trying to build a team on the cheap but as cover (as opposed to being a starter) I think that he would a definite option for a position where we now have no cover whatsoever. Personally I think that he could even displace song in the first 11 if given a fair chance

Ah, you're forgetting that we have Denilson, Augie - oh, and of course Diaby and Eastmond can "do a job" in defensive midfield, too

To be honest, I'd love to have an experienced and reliable back-up to Song, but it won't happen. Not sure Scharner would improve matters, though - although, I've not seen enough of him really.

Still, one good thnig about young players is that you can always try and convince yourself that they'll step up eventually, and become key players - like Song did. Denilson and Diaby will hopefully make that jump this season, and if so... well, the title is in the bag, my friend. In the bag! 8)

2. I'd take Scharner if he's free fu*k i'd take anyone now just have them there to threaten the first teamers place. If i can remember he used to score a few goal also a few against us

1. 6pm it is.

2. As for scharner, why not. He's big, good in the air, pops up with the odd goal, would be cheap, you're on to something here :-P Samba would be cheap too, and Shawcross in fact f!*k it, lets go get Zigic, Crouch and Zat knight, hire Big Sam and completely trash everything that's been built at Arsenal over the past 10 years. :banghead:
Displace Song?

Good idea ! :-P Scharner  Not for me big man

Why couldnt or shouldnt he replace Song, the fact that people rate Song shows just how low our standards have fallen, hes like a fucking carthorse, slow, cumbersome, cant pass, hes fucking shit and if we were a top side he wouldt be anywhere near it
