Not a fan of Cech then? :(

Have to say I'm delighted we've signed him. I have very little confidence in Chesney and Ospina so I'm really hoping Cech proves to be an upgrade 8) - if he is, it'll be huge progress as we've been looking for a proper keeper for years!
I think you are (deliberately) missing my point. These these threads are barking. Cech was a good signing and we've kept Arteta. 50 pages later zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Bloody hell Chippy  there's no reason whatsoever I'd deliberately miss your point; I simply misunderstood - and lets be honest, there was room for misunderstanding as it was (deliberately?  ) ambiguous. I simply read your eye rolling post about 50 pages and Cech and assumed you weren't a fan of his.

g88ner i get your point about it only being a week since the transfer window opens but if i were in his position i'd be moving heaven and earth to sign the players we need and before you make the point in your usual inimical style, i know we don't know what's happening behind the scenes but the sooner deals are agreed the sooner players arrive and can bed in with pre-season.

I'm honestly astounded that a manager of Wengers experience who keeps touting how much of a challenge we're going to make season after season is so tardy in the transfer market.

It's been said before by many members on here before that a club of our stature should really have no problems identifying what we need, then identifying the players needed to fill those criteria and then sign, sealing and delivering said players.

Now to do a bit of a U turn and i suppose defend him a little, this is probably the slowest and quietist transfer market for a long time. :rubchin:

How many more years before you wake up and smell the gravy? That same line from wenger and the board has been spouted out more times than I care to remember.
Don't forget we moved from our beloved home of football to be a European powerhouse, they just didn't tell us it won't be under kroenkes reign.

I agree with much of that. I think the answer to his tardiness in the transfer market is because his drive for relentlessly winning stuff isn't as strong as his drive for developing players, so he's reluctant to give up on his squad players and ruthlessly replace them with the finished article.

I think it'll always hold us back, although signings like Ozil, Cech and Alexis give me hope that he's changing his ways.... slowly. Although, on the other hand, his pride at Coquielin's fast rise and Arteta's professionalism will probably mean we lose out on Schneriderlin. :(

It is only July though, so fingers crossed.

I agree - Wenger's attitude and thinking regarding transfer etc - is not good - I still think part of the reason he made the 3 big signings is he knew he would be in big trouble with fans for non-investment - and knew that we would fall below the holy grail of 4tyh....It is widely known and accepted that Arsenal now have the funds to spend Big...and yet he still penny pinches - using the usual lame excuses of how if he gets another player in such and such a position it will kill off a certain player etc - instead of seeing it as a good thing - and setting up a sense of competition with the team/squad....

He may make 1 or 2 other signings this season - but they will be small finacial amounts for average players...

I suppose the obvious end to that sentence would be: "and... it's only July 7th and the window closes at the end of August".

I get people are frustrated and irritable at not having signed a few top players yet (like fans of most other teams I suppose) but it still feels way too early to be getting this angry about it when we all know most deals around Europe are yet to happen.

Cech signed about a week ago so it's not as if we've been waiting that long since our last transfer fix so... erm... chill 8)

1. I'm guessing that it is a fair bet to suggest that we wont be signing any more top players - we probably will sign 1 or 2 more players but I will be amazed if they are top players that will make a real positive difference to us

2. Yes manure too have only signed one player (and it's debateable how much difference he will make to them) but they have also had bids turned down for sergio ramos and schneiderlin - these are players that would/will make a big difference to them and they are trying to be proactive in a bid to boost their team and squad. I know that this is an assumption, but wouldnt it be a safe bet to suggest that had we made any failed bids for players, this news would have leaked out by now ? That tells me that yes we have made the same number of purchases, but that is where the comparison ends as they are making a big push for the players they need.
On a slightly different level we could also point to the business that the victims are doing - I absolutely agree that they seem to be going with quantity over quality, but by the same token isnt the first rule of buying players be that they are better than what you currently have ? Is clyne better than their other right backs ? Will ings score more goals than ballotelli and lambert ? Will milner be a good addition to them ? I know that you never know if south american players will settle properly, but by all accounts that firmino is supposed to be a good player (bastard scored a hat-trick against me last night as my son gave me a lesson on fifa 15  ).

The victims have plenty of ground to make up if they are to make top 4 next season and manure have plenty of ground to make up if they are to challenge for the title, but it seems that both are working hard to reach their targets - we, as usual, seem to be settling for consolidation rather than progress

There was a time when I'd have been apoplectic at this stage of a window due the fact that we hadn't made the signings to address the areas in the squad that need strengthening but these days I don't let it bother me.

Wenger and the club have managed my expectations to such a level that it doesn't even enter my mind that we might sign the players that would leave us in a position for a shot at the big titles. All I expect is for them to sign the bare minimum to guarantee us top 4, no more no less.

Just by adding Cech to the current squad almost guarantees that outcome in my book so I don't envisage anyone else coming in (of note).

Arsenal PLC - managing your expectations since 2008 :barscarf:

Blimey what happened to the 4 week long medical, which is mandatory for all new Arsenal signings?

Possible that we could sign a striker, but on the proviso that:
he's dirt cheap
he's directly offered to us
no one else wants him
then i think muppet boy Gazidis could probably cut a deal with a bit of luck!

Do you have any idea how much washing and ironing would pile up while she is taking the infamous 4 week AFC medical ?

Just like his performance in almost every single game I've seen him play.

If I were in charge of transfers at Liverpool, and City had offered £50m ( ) for him I would: cosh Sterling, shove him blindfolded in the boot and dump him at Eastlands before City could request a refund.

What is the fuss with this kid? He runs like he's carrying a dirty nappy too.

Careful now.

The FA will be all over you for this remark.
